If you don't find a job, consider some volunteering. It'll give you extra skills and possibly help you find some sort of direction.0

Your second page of posts are far more positive and encouraging! Apply for lots of jobs as you plan to. You will get there in the end! Once you have a job. Take time to think about where you really do want to go with your life. No harm in taking stock for a while until you're ready.0

Definitely second volunteering. If you are feeling depressed it will help to feel "useful" again.

I think loads of people have fallen into jobs that they love by acident. I know I did, I've done almost every job you can think of, even a chemical engineer and my qualifications at that time - zero!! I've worked as a book keeper and accounts manager after doing my first year of AAT, I've since done GCSE maths. But that is it. I've been a manager, worked a bookies, working a pub, factories.... lots of part time jobs to meake ends meet - but none of them were every in my 'life plan'.
Pub/clubs are great for meeting people if working behind the bar and you get to socialise too so why not do that to get out of the house.
It's a job, it puts food on the table and pays the rent, you need to focus on this and not a 'career' you just need to find something/anything to do - as you never know where it might lead you in the future. And it might be something you had ever thought of and you might enjoy it.
Now? I am a mum full time and run my own business in the 'other spare time' I have. I met my hubby while working as a chemical engineer - I just try and blag my way into jobs and it worked because my attitude was always positive and I showed I was always willing to learn. Of course you are going to get knock backs but if you are going in there with that attitude then that will be why.
What about signing on with a temping agency or two, these jobs often to lead to full itme jobs if they can see you turning up every day and you do a good days work and take pride in the work you do.0 -
Jesus, grow up! You whinge that you're depressed and we don't know how it feels, we don't know what your life is like. You think noone else on here has troubles? You think everyone in the world is happy, loves their job, has no worries? Go to the doctor and get some tablets, and go and get a job. There is no reason why you can't get work, go to some agencies, go online, got to the job centre. You've managed to muddle your way through university, so I'm sure you can muddle your way through some application forms.
Don't sit and whinge on an internet forum about how !!!! your life is and expect tea and sympathy. If you think you're depressed, get treatment for it. I'm diabetic and I inject insulin for it, because that's the treatment for it; ifI get a headache, I take a couple of paracetamol and it gets better. Good god, get over yourself, get a job, get yourself somewhere to live, and get on with life, cos noone's going to live it for you.0 -
Why not start your own diary on here and keep us all updated? It sounds like talking about it has helped lift your spirits so far.
DirectGov is great for looking for local jobs
also, think of places around you and try their websites for jobs as they don't always advertise externally.
Pills are pills, and I've been on them. The thing is, if they help you then what's the harm? If they lift your spirits and help you get through this then just take them.
I think you can do this! You have the skills for probably many jobs, just start with 'a' job and go from there!
I'm 27 and only just decided last year what I want to do, 'construction and civil engineering', and I'm a girl! lol.
Also, despite your degree, which you have said before is useless to you, when you can work out what you want to do, then you can always do college, night courses, day release etc.. Just because you have a degree doesn't mean you can't specialise in an area (when you find what it is).
When I was your age, I'm guessing you are 22/23? I worked so hard to get my mortgage advisor papers. Started my first job doing mortgage advising and hated it lol.9/70lbs to lose

Sometimes talking like a pratt really doesn't help someone.

As harsh as it comes across, he has a point.0

Your situation is black and white though. Either you get out there, or you stay on benefits.0

well, considering this is the internet, I think I'll talk however I like until such time as the thread gets locked. The op has put himself out there by posting and I'm not one for tea and sympathy where it's not appropriate. It gets very tiresome seeing people whinge about how depressed they are but refusing to do the sensible thing and take whatever chenical help is available to them to get better. Soft and fluffy isn't going to get the OP off his ar4e and changing the things he needs to, and just because my approach differs from yours doesn't make me a pratt.0
