When is the clamping ban coming in?

Afternoon MSErs,

After extensive Googling I haven't found an article on when the new clamping ban in England and Wales is coming into effect. Most media sources just point to the fact it's in the government's Freedom Bill, to be put in place in "the new year" (2011) i.e. around now.

Anyone got any info? I just want to know when to crack open the champagne.

Cheers,

Muirio.

    good question.

    the Bill is a 'green paper' (i.e at stage 1 - notification,suggestions,etc)

stage 2 (white paper) is where the fun starts. (debate).

the clamping issue may be included but if you share my distrust of politico's you'll only believe it when you see it!
  • Assuming it get approved, it needs royal assent- then there is likely to be a 3 year lead in process to help the clampers--would you believe.

Now is a good time to run off a quick letter to all our MPs making sure they know the extent of the shocking extremes of this knuckle-dragging industry. Some MPs might be swayed by the 'not parking on my back yard/driveway' landowner [STRIKE]argument[/STRIKE] old chestnut if it's pushed hard enough at them.

Constituents need to persuade their MP now that clamping HAS to be banned so their mind is already made up before the Bill is discussed.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

...Wow, up to three years?! Unbelievable....

Like it or not, clamping is a livelihood for some people.

If your trade/job was going to be banned, you might appreciate a bit of notice to make alternative arrangements to pay the mortgage, feed the kids, etc.
  • I might have had some sympathy providing they had paid all their taxes (not registering abroad to avoid) paid their vat (not using Moto or Barclays vat numbers) and clamped when there was no other alternative (not boxing in drivers and clamping with up to £1000. to release). These sort will find some other ""criminal"" activity to pursue.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • Honest people are losing their jobs all the time, often with only a very short period of notice. Like Peter, I have no sympathy with clampers.
Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!

Unfortunately it was a livelihood that most abused. Even our ethical clamper, didn't think his income earned in this country should be taxed in this country. Then he has the cheek to say he will sue the Government for loss of earnings!

That is a brilliant comedy site. Someone has put a fair amount of work into making it look like a real site for parking enforcement (sic) companies.

I assume it was a school project or similar. :D

EDIT - I see it even has reference to "parking on your driveway" comedy gold!
