Interview for a job where no salary was stated?

I wouldn't worry about the salary not being mentioned.
My OH had an interview lined up last year after being approached by an agency through a friends recommendation . There was no salary figure mentioned so we was expecting the lower end of the bracket. It was a pleasant surprise to find out that is was a V. high paid job with ££££'s yearly bonus ( plus we just found out about another bonus we didn't know about! ) and health care for the family.
Also employers like to know how experienced someone is before money is mentioned. I wouldn't ask to be honest, my personal opinion is if the haven't stated then don't ask.
Good luckI can't be bothered updating this anymore0

Why not ring them up, say you've seen the advert and ask for a 'salary indicator' or salary range. You don't need to say who you are, so it will not count against you at the interview.
In my experience, it is not so much low-paid jobs that don't state the salary but rather those that are looking to pay below the going rate for the role.
With a 4-hour interview in prospect I would certainly ring up and ask the salary first! Several times in the past I have called to ask about salary, found out is is just below what I was already on and saved myself the time end effort of applying.0

Thanks everyone for posting, so great to have so much and varied input and views....
My covering letter did state my salary expectations... of course ... so hopefully they did not invite me for an interview if the salary they are prepared to offer is very different
Still few days to go before the interview, wish I knew how many people they have asked for the interview/assesement day.. and what is their background 0 0

Let us know how you get on.0

If you're on JSA you have four hours spare to do the interview day!
I went for an interview got to the final two and didn't get the job. Salary not specified and offered at over 100k!! Needless to say I was anticipating half that! don't worry!0

            Thanks for posting everyone....
Just had a look (again) at their website and there is something about they paying fairly what they can afford - this does NOT sound good
Can not copy exact wording but it also says they are not a place to work if someone wants to get rich....
 I am serious.....
(Yes, I do have 4 or more hours for an interview but it is costing me quite a lot.. and now looking into the salary possibly being in a veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy low range... sighhhh)0

Oh, emailed them asking for some indication about the salary - as it was not mentioned grrrr
 Now really worried....
May need to improvise on the spot there and then.... 0 0

Why is it costing you a lot? You should be able to get help with travel costs from Job Centre?0

When I said it costs me it is not about travel cost, I have other expense when I am out of the flat for few hours. While working this was not an isue as had a regular dog walker.. occassional dog care is more expensive...
No, I can not say I am on slightly more but interested in the position because they will know I am currently on JSA, vacancy was advertised on JC+ and they have a record of me applying for it so if the "reason not offered the job" is put as "wanted more money" it is not going to look good.... sigh....0

That website wording sounds bad...oh dear...
Personally - I would still quote the salary level I am on - even though you are CURRENTLY getting only JSA. Nevertheless - your salary level is your salary level and I would go "armed" with proof that it IS your salary level (ie spent x years earning it in the last job and y years earning the equivalent in the job before that, etc). Whenever I've been unemployed - I've always ensured that interviewers know my "salary level" - regardless of the fact I was unemployed at the time.
I DO have suspicions that you are going to have to deliberately fail the job interview though - so go lined with some suitable ways up your sleeve just in case..(thinks: a query along the lines of "Is this interview going to take much longer? - only I have a train to catch to get home" might do the trick - as they promptly think "She's a clockwatcher").
Hope you get a pleasant surprise and they DO offer "the rate for the job".0
