Just eaten a small crop of what I think might have been Desiree babies. Rubbed the skin off with my thumb, boiled and munched with a knob of butter and some sea salt.
Yum yum yum yum.
Boyfriend has never had potatoes straight from the ground before. He liked them a LOT, and I remembered the taste from being a teeny tiny in the 1970s.
He made some mint tea yesterday afternoon, which will go perfectly with this and the chicken I am cooking on the stove.
I do like having a garden for the first time.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Need a bit of advice and help please. As this is the first attempt at spuds, I have no idea when they are ready to harvest. I have Vales Emeralds in a bag and have had a bit a of a rummage as best I could down the side but can't find anything obvious. They have flowered and are looking a bit wilty although I don't think they are underwatered. Is there any way of telling when to harvest?0

Am going to dig up one of my Rockets tomorrow while the nice man cleans my carpets (I'll leave my garden clogs outside
) to see what's going on in the tub cos none of them flowered fully, the little buds withered and died off. Fingers crossed I'll be having yummy little new pots with my dinner tomorrow evening
- if they haven't rotted away in all the rain we've been having lately!

How do I stop mine going green now I've dug them up? Left them outside (stupidly) and some of crop have turned slightly? Will be gutted if I have to throw them away, my beautiful Charlottes. Can I still eat them if cooked thoroughly?0

Just dug up my first lot of king eddies.
Is there anything about spuds with white spots on i should be concerned at? Seems like a fungus or mould?
ALso some of the roots have baby spuds on will these be worth replanting?

If you put them in a cool dark place for a while, the green should fade and they'll be fine to eat. I usually put potatoes that have done this in the 'fridge. It takes a while but it'll stop you having to throw them away. Alternatively, the green usually starts at the surface and works its way in, so if they weren't out for too long you could just peel the green bits off them and eat the rest. Never did me any harm
