Select Calls [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]

Tried to cancel and had an agressive intimidating man who wouldn't take no for an answer, despite given him a couple of reasons for cancelling after much pressure.
I have since contacted BT to say I don't wish to change and they have informed me that Select calls have not cancelled it.
Tuesday will be the day that they will try to swap over, so we'll see what happens.0 -
Hi guys. I am a business and i am currently within my contract with select calls. Just a quickie, I am reading through all your comments and its great that people look out for eachother. But have u ever heard of laws? a company would not get away with doing what u say they do. I agree it was a noisy background when my conversation took place, but is this an issue? I have been with them now for 2 years. 60 month contract? and? this means that for the next 60 months my rates will stay the same rather than the 2 price increases i did recieve with bt and if anyone approaches me with a better offer they match it? Yes real catch! hah! Also, as far as direct debit goes, they asked for my sort code and account number, neither of which can process a payment. They can either pay money into my account with this or set up a direct debit with my approval! I know a lot more than u lot becasue i am with them, I do not feel scammed, and quite frankly there saving me hundreds a year. Maybe you should all look at there website that is in the public domain, they would not be able to legally do what u all say. So perhaps, take a look at this before you all slag a company off that actually is not doing anything wrong!!! Oh, and just for the record, you think select have lots of bad reviews, take a look on bt's website and see how many they have.0

Thanks. It's always interesting to hear the opinion of a first time poster.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I too have just been called by these guys and have foolishly given my sort code and account no'.
I was wondering can they still confirm and activate the contract with me even though on the 2nd phone call (which should be the one recorded verbal contract) I said I changed my mind and didnt want to go ahead with itand put the phone down?
Im just worried they will still try set up a direct debit since they have my account details.
If I get a 'leaving letter' from BT could I call BT up straight away and get them to stop the transfer of the phone line?0 -
If you have online banking, I'd keep a very close eye on your account to check if they've used those details to set up a DD. If one appears, cancel it immediately (and again, and again if they persist).
If they succeed in making a DD call, instruct your bank to reverse it immediately (they must do so).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. True. Deformation and slander are all offences. So is it a scam or not? - please answer clearly and concisely because I have had a call from them and wondered whether I would like to use them as from the outset the pitch sounded quite good and would save me money.
Is this thread is just Bull or what? in the sense is it just a bunch of disgruntled ex employees all having a cheap shot at their old employer or is there any worth in what they are saying?
In my honest opinion what you write here is down to you if you think it can help others avoid problems in the future, but personally I would read the terms and conditions of websites I post to regarding what I write about companies I have worked for, I have personally been in trouble for this. If you release information to public which is in employment contracts or sensitive, and in cases where it is only supposed to be privy to employees only (and a piece of paper has your signature on it) you could find yourself in court or worse. Even if you think you are hiding behind anonymity here, should a company wish to pursue it, they can get all of your details from the websites you write this stuff just by IP and ISP. , but do take heed especially if you have a non disclosure agreement in your old contracts, thats what i got stiffed for.
Defamation is an injury to the reputation or character of someone resulting from the false statements or actions of another. Defamation is a false attack on your good name. Your good name is regarded as a proprietary interest, not a personal interest. Defamation is an improper and unlawful attack against your proprietary right to good name, and reputation.
Defamation is a general term for the false attack on your character or reputation through either libel or slander. Libel is a term describing visual defamation, usually in the form print, or misleading or deceptive information.
Libel exposes or subjects you to hatred, contempt, ridicule, or disgrace, or causes you to be shunned or avoided, or injures you in your occupation or business.
Slander is an oral statement that tends to injur you in respect to your office, profession, trade or business. The statement or statements generally suggest that you lack integrity, honesty, incompetence, or that you possess other reprehensible personal characteristics.
A legal claim based on defamation entitles the victim to recover against the defamer for his or her damages. In addition, the victim will be entitled to sue for punitive, or punishment, damages.
There are other critical differences which make defamation important to be aware of. You can prove defamation on word alone, even though it is always better to have some confirming evidence. ( a letter, a memo, an e-mail etc.) This means that the "hearsay" rule does not apply to the evidence in court which repeats defamatory statements.made out of court.
You do not have to prove damages in defamation cases. Damages are presumed.
The defamatory comments do not have to be stated (this is described as being "published") to someone outside the company. Purely internal memorandums or comments that falsely attack can be defamatory
So do be careful guys!
As is cold calling out of the yellow pages and implying to potential customers that you know how much they pay and what billing provider they use when in fact you dont. TRUE?0 -
No that recorded call is for legal purposes. It would be requested by offcom if there is the slightest doubt as to the legitimacy of your transfer.potnoodle81 wrote: »I too have just been called by these guys and have foolishly given my sort code and account no'.

If that's what you thought you were agreeing to, then I've got bad news for you...its not a fixed price contract. The price can increase any time, unless your contract says otherwise. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Select Calls have now become True Telecom....
Anyone else seen this?0 -
wish I had looked at this before I got caught up with them myself!
I had many of the same experiences and it was a total nightmare. I did thankfully manage to get out of the contract without paying the cancellation fee. One of the staff agreed it and I had it in an email, she left soon after so I suspect this was her act before leaving!
They have sent bill after bill after bill, all incorrect, all demanding money. I would never have signed up for 5 years if I had realised as I knew I was moving areas within 12-18 months!
I got a copy of the call from them and they did say it, but so fast and with so much other info I didn't pick it out.
STAY CLEAR OF THEM
awful awful experience0
