Select Calls [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]

Had a call from these guys today.
The said they can reduce my quartile line rental bill from 44.60 to 22.30. Where do they get this information from? That’s absolutely wrong I don’t pay that on any of my lines.
They also said that they could reduce Call charges to £1.3p/min landlines, 9-12.5p/min mobile and Free Select Calls line to line. My BT select services like 1571, call divert & waiting stay the same but are 50% cheaper than BT.
5 year contract - fixed rate and will price match any other on market.
£375 get out fee per line + VAT.
I found the background noise extremely loud in the back ground (shouting, abusive, loud music) [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] I asked for details in the post or by email which they refused to do and service manager who was passed on [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] got very abrupt with me and slammed the phone down when I said I refused to do business like this. I am always looking to save money but it sounded and seemed very uncomfortable, I was very reluctant to go ahead.
So I’ve done some research...
1. Their website w (dot) select-calls (dot) co (dot) uk looks very legitimate and give me all the details I need, but I cant apply online - I have to submit a form for them to call me back form that awful call centre.
The address on the website is
SELECT CALLS LTD Telecom Services
9 Bentinck Street,
London, W1U 2EL

I don’t think I shall be going ahead with this company. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] I urge anybody who comes across them to question them like mad! Get as much information out as possible [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]

Well if you call that a catch - then it is (60 month contract and cancel fees). Its a good note in the sense that because it's a cold call, 99% of people wouldnt give sensitive info over the phone. They don't ask for it so you can't be frauded or scammed and gives you piece of mind.0

Well, giving a cold caller my account number and sort code is sensitive information to me!Xfactorboi wrote: »They do not ask for sensitive bank details - only account number and sort code which are not sensitive.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. So is it a scam or not? - please answer clearly and concisely because I have had a call from them and wondered whether I would like to use them as from the outset the pitch sounded quite good and would save me money.
Is this thread is just Bull or what? in the sense is it just a bunch of disgruntled ex employees all having a cheap shot at their old employer or is there any worth in what they are saying?
In my honest opinion what you write here is down to you if you think it can help others avoid problems in the future, but personally I would read the terms and conditions of websites I post to regarding what I write about companies I have worked for, I have personally been in trouble for this. If you release information to public which is in employment contracts or sensitive, and in cases where it is only supposed to be privy to employees only (and a piece of paper has your signature on it) you could find yourself in court or worse. Even if you think you are hiding behind anonymity here, should a company wish to pursue it, they can get all of your details from the websites you write this stuff just by IP and ISP. , but do take heed especially if you have a non disclosure agreement in your old contracts, thats what i got stiffed for.
Defamation is an injury to the reputation or character of someone resulting from the false statements or actions of another. Defamation is a false attack on your good name. Your good name is regarded as a proprietary interest, not a personal interest. Defamation is an improper and unlawful attack against your proprietary right to good name, and reputation.
Defamation is a general term for the false attack on your character or reputation through either libel or slander. Libel is a term describing visual defamation, usually in the form print, or misleading or deceptive information.
Libel exposes or subjects you to hatred, contempt, ridicule, or disgrace, or causes you to be shunned or avoided, or injures you in your occupation or business.
Slander is an oral statement that tends to injur you in respect to your office, profession, trade or business. The statement or statements generally suggest that you lack integrity, honesty, incompetence, or that you possess other reprehensible personal characteristics.
A legal claim based on defamation entitles the victim to recover against the defamer for his or her damages. In addition, the victim will be entitled to sue for punitive, or punishment, damages.
There are other critical differences which make defamation important to be aware of. You can prove defamation on word alone, even though it is always better to have some confirming evidence. ( a letter, a memo, an e-mail etc.) This means that the "hearsay" rule does not apply to the evidence in court which repeats defamatory statements.made out of court.
You do not have to prove damages in defamation cases. Damages are presumed.
The defamatory comments do not have to be stated (this is described as being "published") to someone outside the company. Purely internal memorandums or comments that falsely attack can be defamatory
So do be careful guys!0 -
Talking of bull ......Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

LOL not at all, I have no affiliation with this company! I joined this website last year not today, and I am merely sharing my own experience. Remove it if you wish!0

Well, giving a cold caller my account number and sort code is sensitive information to me!
Well think of your sort code as a postcode for the bank you registered with and the account number as your house number. These never change. You see them on your statements, bank card, mini slips, cheque book - the lot. Why? Because it's just a way of location where you are within your bank or building society.
They cannot withdraw money or request money without permission from the mandate or verbal recorded agreement.0
