There is no more respect in this country.

Not providing a 'Thanks but no thanks' for people who have spent time, money and effort going to an interview is truly disgusting..

its just how it is, its been like this for years, it is annoying i admit but no point getting annoyed by it

Job hunting is not 'fruitless', there are many job hunters currently being invited to interviews and gaining new jobs. All that has changed is that the market has gotten tighter due to the downturn in the economy. To find a job in this climate you need to change your approach to seeking work, and radically improve your CV and presentation skills. You need to develop a sales side, and "sell" yourself as a viable product.. one which will work better/ save more money/ make more money/ ultimately be more economical for the employer.

You need to look outside of the box and apply for jobs you wouldn't normally go for, and use techniques you wouldn't normally use, such as going door to door, targeted drop ins, adding LinkedIn to your armoury of tools (the facebook of the business world if you didn't know).

And even when you've done all that, it can still be a waiting game. Employers do have the pick of the crop right now, but they also have more pressure to employ someone who can do everything in one go, their hands are tied in regards to taking on new staff, advertising for them, providing training etc.. the money just isn't there, and small to medium sized businesses especially are the worst affected.

good advice, i can second the advice of looking outside of teh box as ive done that myself

I left my employment at the end of Nov 10, sent out hundereds of applications/CV's, registered with loads of agencies, asked among friends etc.
I had one interview before christmas, not one other reply AT ALL.

Then this week I have had another 3 interviews and have 3 offers "on the table". Its a funny old world???

Point is, stick at it, the majority of employers don't reply, frustrating but true, at least when the reply comes you know that you are a genuine candidate for the role.

Went for an interview last week and was told id get a reply end of last week but no reply came so sent an email yesterday for news and no reply came today, dont see why i should send another email if they dont reply, theres only so many times i will ask about feedback and give up if no response is forthcoming

As a fellow Psychology post graduate, I have to play devil's advocate - bloody great knowing exactly how to get around your own tests :rotfl:
You can't really cheat though in some cases, as the lying will be suspected at interview or in work.
Wanted a job, now have one.
  • I applied through an agency went for two interviews and got £1500 offered over the advertised vacancy! I was told it was because of my C.V. Please don't give up all I would say is have a good C.V.

What gets me is when they say they will contact you by end of the week and end of the week comes and no reply, why say end of the week if you can stick to it, its happened twice to me recently and one of the interviews i thought id answered the questions very well plus i have experience that is needed,
