I've applied for 10 jobs in the past couple of weeks, and had one offer of an interview and one 'thanks but no thanks', so no, in answer to your question, it doesn't seem as if many employers respond these days, especially if the response is negative.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I have. This afternoon I asked my boss if he would like a cup of tea. And he replied "Yes please".

    lol

Same here, I asked mine a question about one of my staffs leave and he replied!

  • I get 3/4 speculative applications a week and I respond to all of those, however when I advertise a job and get 100+ responses I am not going to write to those that don't get an interview as its to costly. However if they leave an email address I will do a quick thanks but no thanks to those as it doesn't take that much time.

Out of the hundred or so applications I've made, 1 said "thanks, but no thanks", the other said "you may not get invited for interview because your current salary is higher than what we're advertising. The hiring manager will assume you'll run off at the first sign of a better paid job"

    *sigh*

Sorry, but it DOES make sense. Anybody who is suffering the current misery of fruitless job hunting would immediately see that!

I was being sarcastic, and having a go at all these employers who are persistently snubbing job applications from people. I am FED UP with sending my CV out every day and getting no word back at all. It is quite despicable.

    Understand now??
Im one of those employers doing that.Im getting huge numbers of applications for each vacancy atm.It would be impossible time/money wise to reply to any one other those called for interview.Have you tried sending different c.v s in ?

since xmas day ive applied for 2 jobs and had an interview for 1 of them and the other is in the pipeline, bit of advice make sure your application (whether its a cover letter or application form) is spell checked, you mention all that you can(use your experience) thats in the ad, it helps if you read the ad as well

Just a little thought, but in particular for those small companies that cannot be a***d to spend a minute of their time to give a thanks but no thanks email response for a rejection, could be in a situation soon afterwards when one of those applicants would then find a job and then be a potential customer.

That person could then be in a situation where they might want to give a multi-thousand pound business order to that company. Who would they want to give the business too?

    either.

    1) The Company who could not be a***d to reply to his application.
    2) The Company who courteously responded to his application.

I know which one I would place the business with.
