I think if you apply via the internet, they should take and make time to let you know either way if you are successful or not.
That wouldn't take that much of their time and no need for a stamp.
I've applied for about 8 since friday and not heard from any of those.
I did have an interview today for a telesales job, but it's usually jobs like that which have a high turnover in staff which are keen to let you know.

While I agree it is rude of people not to respond I think it's a bit unrealistic to expect a reply within a week, they are probably still collecting CVs and will have a plan to review then next week. Hope you hear something posutive soon.

  • I applied for 3 jobs 6 days ago and 1 job 5 days ago.

I've had an acknowledgement from 3 of the 4 jobs (all chains, the 4th is a small independant and I wont expect acknowledgement for a while).

I've got 1 interview arranged, 1 company who I declined to take the application further (they advertised that the job was in a branch near me but it's 30 miles away!), the 3rd have emailed to say that their policy is to advise everyone at the same time so I will hear from them by next Friday.

My applications are for posts that require specific qualifications but I think it helps that I tailored my CV and wrote a nice covering email for all of the positions.

I use agencies and seem to get 2 or 3 calls a day most are just trolling or fishing for info it depends in what line of business you are in as IT is in demand in certain areas.

Just a little thought, but in particular for those small companies that cannot be a***d to spend a minute of their time to give a thanks but no thanks email response for a rejection, could be in a situation soon afterwards when one of those applicants would then find a job and then be a potential customer.

That person could then be in a situation where they might want to give a multi-thousand pound business order to that company. Who would they want to give the business too?

    either.

    1) The Company who could not be a***d to reply to his application.
    2) The Company who courteously responded to his application.

I know which one I would place the business with.

    I doubt it.

Yes, I've even done that - yet still very rarely receive a reply!

If you applied via email chase them up with a polite email stating you are still interested in the position & would like to know if you are still being considered.

I don't know what you mean. There was nothing wrong with my first posting.

I should remind you too that to judge by the generally positive response I received, most people understand what I am going through here.

You are most probably one of the lucky few who DO have a job and have never had to go through unemployment hell, hence your inability to fully empathise with my plight.

Funnily enough, now you have explained yourself and your point properly I do understand now.

Anyway, if you write your job applications as badly as you did your first post then it's no wonder you aren't receiving replys.

we've been through all this with you before and explained why... you do come across as very negative.
Oh great, keep everyone who is negative unemployed. Let's actually give them all a reason to feel negative instead of a reason to be positive for a change.

Anyway back on the topic, it's always nice to at least have some acknowledgement, Tesco sent me a letter thanking me for my applications saying they were considering them and would be in touch, but that was ages ago and never heard back. Many of the jobs I have applied for have specifically said they do not contact if you are unsuccessful, which is fair enough.
Wanted a job, now have one.

If they have any sense they'll give the order to the company best placed to fill it, and set any personal grudges aside.

I've applied for about 12 jobs since just before Christmas. Had 2 interviews already and another one today. Got turned down by one and hired by the other as a temporary position.
I've had email turn downs but nothing by mail. I can only think of 3 that I haven't heard anything from at all.
Had I only applied for those 3 then I may be a bit miffed at no reply. I suppose it depends how you apply/ who you apply to...

You are most probably one of the lucky few who DO have a job and have never had to go through unemployment hell, hence your inability to fully empathise with my plight.

My inability to empathise with your plight is that you come across as negative and you seem paranoid as if these employers who do not respond have it in to you and pyschometric testing is there to stop you getting a job.

Instead of coming on here and posting your sarcastic opening comments and campaigning to get rid off psycometric testing why not ask people for advice on how to complete the psycometric tests and how to improve your CV so you have a better chance of hearing back.

Yes I do have a job and luck has nothing to do with it. I got my current job through preparing well for the interview, having solid technical skills and having a well written and presented CV. I had no experience in the sector but I did have strong skills that were transferable to my role and I had some good achievments in previous roles that I could talk about at the interview.

Also the last time I looked at the unemployment stats they were about 8% so I'm not one of the lucky few but rather one of the vast majority.

So instead of just complaining how everything is stacked against you why not take a look at what you are doing and try and improve it.

Do you rewrite your CV for every job application?
Do you rewrite your covering letter for every role?
Does your CV do enough to make you stand out as a candidate?
Do you have a list of past achievments to try and get employers interested?
Have you read up about psychometric tests?
Do you get other people to check your CV for spelling and grammatical errors?

If you want a job or a different job you need to work hard at it. With the job market the way it is there is more competition for every job out there and many of those candidates are going to do everything they can to make themselves stand out from the crowd if you don't do the same then you are unlikely to meet with much success.
There's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
