You're not really comparing like with like there. The HTC Desire will cost you around £350 sim free compared with £100 or less for the SF. You might be able to get a good deal on contract with the Desire now, particularly as the newer models (HD and Z) are out, but it's still going to cost you significantly more than a San Francisco.

I doubt I will go sim free tbh, I can afford the £4000ish over 2 years month by month but theres no way I'd ever be able to pay that amount upfront- not able to get credit and also I haven't yet found a pay-as-you-go deal which matches a contract.

I know the SF is a whole lot cheaper which is why I will keep it in the back of my mind should the HTC ranges not decrese in price (which I would find hard to believe if they didn't!) I have another 6 weeks to wait, its not something I am planning on doing tomorrow.

All I know from past experience is that phones get cheaper with time and pretty rapidly. I know to look for my new handset 2 months in advance . 5.5 weeks to go...

Make sure you find out how much data is included when comparing prices. It's no good getting a cheap deal and then discovering you have to pay extra for web browsing.

If you are considering T Mobile it may be worth thinking about taking out your new contract a month early as T Mobile are changing their fair usage limits for new customers from the 1st February.

I know- I'm looking at unlimited data and will see whats going on nearer the time. I have thought about getting a t-mobile contract early but that means downgrading on a handset as the better models wont be available at a reduced cost then. In two minds about that and may end up tossing a coin!

All the other tarrifs seem to offer up to a set amount and I'd worry I'd exceed that. I never want anything to do with 3mobile again so my unlimited internet options are limited. Am wondering if there will be any further tarriff changes by the end of Jan.

Does anyone have any experience with T-Mobile? I hear stories that their call centers are based somewhere with a heavy accent and the customer service is terrible! This worries me though as long as they don't try to scam me (as 3 did several times) I don't think it can actually get any worse!

I'm with Tmobile - just brought an HTC Wildfire on PAYG unlocked from Phones 4u £129. Avoided the £10/£20 top up as did it as an upgrade as they call it as I've several PAYG phones brought in my name for family.

Did look at the San Fran option too but personal choice - I went for the HTC. I'm quite happy with it - wanted a basic smart phone - one I could get internet on and facebook etc. If you work in education/for the council Orange stores offer £20 off the San Fran on PAYG but know you were after a contract option - they offered me the San Fran on contract for £15.

I spoke to T mobile before using the new handset and moved from my £10 sim only deal pay monthly one, to £15 to include 'unlimited' data.

In the future I might look at Tesco Sim only £10 deal or read up on GiffGaff more as I don't know anything about them I'm sure I can move to £10 a month again but am happy with T mobile.

In the past I've always had contract phones - last one was a Sony Erricson C905 - £30 a month for 18 months and I never really liked the phone, good camera but not that keen on the phone. I've kept that handset and have put my old PAYG Sim I sue more for recieving work calls/texts on, that way I still have the camera option on that, Wildfire camera seems ok but to be honest I usually have a good compact camera in my bag so not worried about a phone one.

I hate being tied to contracts - last 18 months seemed long feel happy on PAYG with monthly Sim.

I have got an itouch - did'nt feel I could justify an iphone too, liked friends HTC Desire HD but not the prices for what I use it for.

I've never had problems with Tmobile - find the customer services good, sometimes a long wait peak times to speak to someone but not too bad. If I need to ask anything about tarriffs and the handset etc I pop into a tmobile shop for advice, equally find Phones 4u staff helpful if I need advice on set up.

You could ask about the Dell streak.

It is a very big phone, but if you want something that will do lots more it may be worth looking at.

I don't know of any offers. available on Orange a Vodaphone
But it runs android so lots of apps.

I've had my Desire since it was released and have been very happy with it. Like others have said I don't even use my laptop hardly. The range of apps is getting better and better.

I'm a big fan of HTC. The Desire has a beautiful screen, is super quick and Android is a great OS

If the main thing you want to do on your mobile is go online then you need a big screen so I wouldn't go for the Wildfire IMO. The Galaxy S is very nice, but I've been looking at the Windows 7 phones - they are promising
