Best handset to use for web?

I am preplanning my next phone. I don't tend to use my phone to talk or text on but do like to use it to go online.

My only issue is with 3-mobile, I never want to have anything to do with them again! I am going to be ending my contract then end of Feb so am looking now to see whats available and hoping the price will fall by then.

I have been looking at the HTC range as I wasn't too happy with the flickery way the Nokias touch screens worked. I'd love an Apple but its out of my range...
I looked at Samsung but the Galaxy S has issues with the software according to mobile phone online reviews.

Does anyone have any advice or things to look out for? I can see the handsets which look pretty but not sure how they last in real life and judging by the 24 months most contracts state I need to get a decent handset! I've just spent the last 18 months with the handset from hell!! (LG Viewty-i)

Are you sure an iPhone is out of range ?
You can get an 8GB 3GS from Tesco for £259 upfront then £20 a month for 12 months.
You can then unlock it for free and go sim only and your choice of networks.

HTC Wildfire seems to work well enough, I have a N97 mini and the touch screen on the HTC is way better.

I kept the N97 though. Wildfire can be £20 or less a month on contract and i think someone posted links on here
to the Wildfire available for under £150 on pay & go.

For web browsing, the bigger the screen and the higher the spec of the phone the better.

Take a look at the new Windows Phone 7 handsets. I got an Omnia 7 and web browsing's great. No flash, but on most handsets, barr the very top end, it's not always very smooth anyway. The OS is very very slick and an updates coming soon. Recommended:beer:

'fraid so, I could just about pay £20 a month (but would prefer less!) Theres a Wildfire for £9ish after redemption but am not sure it will still be there at the end of feb hence me looking early so I don't miss any flash deals!

Would love an iphone but the above works out to £30+ a month and I just don't have that.

I like the Wildfire- am hoping the deal I've seen is still around-or better by the time my contract ends! I also liked the HTC Desire HD and am hoping by then there is a similar deal for it as the cheapest seems to be £25 a month via redemption offers and cashback.

Does anyone have any real life experience of using both the HTC Desire and the HTC Wildfire? Whats the difference? (other then price:cool:)

The most noticeable difference is the screen. The wildfire has a much lower screen resolution and a smaller overall screen size.

The wildfire is a solid little phone for the price, but you really need to go and see it working to make sure that you're happy with the screen. If the low resolution doesn't bother you then great, but for a lot of people it will be the deal breaker, particularly if the OP wants to do a lot of browsing.

I wouldnt get the wildfire at all, the screen res is just way too low. also is is stupidly expensive for what it is, I don't know what HTC is thinking charging so much.

much better options (esp for web browsing) is the orange san francisco, it has a much much higher res screen, a bigger screen, and is much cheaper (and can be unlocked to any network for free),
if you actually want a small screen then something like the xperia x10 mini pro, is a very decent phone for the money and still cheaper than the wildfire, and has a useable camera compared to the wildfire.

My nokia N8 is good for browsing. I've even done it for this forum before, when my pc was playing up.
