Best handset to use for web?

Has anyone on here got a San Fransisco as I would like to know if it is
OK as a WEB Phone. It is nice and light and feels a bit like an iphone
obviously it wont be as good as the iphone. But as they say Beggars
cant be Choosers :beer:

I have the HTC Desire and I can highly recommend it for web browsing. My netbook hardly gets used these days as my phone can do just about everything.

I wouldn't go for the Wildfire as it is a generally inferior phone in terms of the processor and screen size and resolution.

The Desire HD is a newer phone and has a larger screen than the Desire but I'll think you'll struggle to get one within your £20 budget.

I had one and it's an impressive spec for the money, particularly the screen. However the camera is next to useless and the build quality felt cheap to me, but if you can live with that you won't get a better spec for the price.

I 2nd that. Got mine for £78.99, unlocked it for free and flashed with a 2.2 ROM. It is my 1st smartphone but I am really impressed.

For the price (usually £100) and how customisable it is, I don't think you can find anything more cost effective.

I was almost purchasing a Desire, which is a great phone, but couldn't justify the price tag.

you can always get the lg optimus one on PAYG for £180 from 3, then just buy the internet add on each month for £5, over 24 months that would only work out at £12.50 a month.

or same phone - same network on a 24 month contract 500mins, 5000texts, 1GB internet for £18 a month

I'm another San Fran user. Got it just before xmas for £89 including £10 top-up. But I've unlocked it and using a GiffGaff sim for mostly internet whilst its still free until end of Feb (hopefully will be extended further). If I needed unlimited internet I would just buy a £10 goodybag or if I was a talker I'd get the Tesco's £10 sim only deal to compliment the phone.

Am very happy with the San Fran... its a very solidly made phone and weighty.

I've got an HTC Desire which is superb for web browsing, I got it on a retention deal with Virgin, but my second option was to get a cash-back deal with mobiles.co.uk (part of carphone warehouse). If you use a cashback website such as topcashback you get £50 from them, then you get 7 months free line rental (by redemption) - on the Orange £25/month deal, which averages out around the £15/month level.

Thanks so much everyone! Some fantastic advice. Seems to be a toos up between the HTC Desire and the SanFran. I have not yet sampled the SF so will try to find a store which has it.

It will likely be a cahsback and then via redemption method (quidco/tcb then e2save or phones4u) as this seems to be the best way to get the most out of a contract, they already seem to have some great offers, but just a confusing amount of handsets!

I don't need to replace my current contract until the end of Feb so am hoping prices will fall by then as I can see this year a great many new handsets coming in as apparently a whole new type of software has just been created so the competition should be higher as the year goes on!
Had such a rubbish handset with 3 that I have gotten used to not using it aside from the internet now so would be prepared to wait it out even longer if the prices dont fall (and if the rest of my friends and family can tolerate me being uncontactable!!)

You don't necessarily have to go for a contract to get a phone, especially if they try to aim you at fairly high rental to get it free, and you said you don't use many minutes

Buy the pay as you go unlocked or on O2, and take a look at giffgaff. There's free data until the end of February (100 MB a day fair use), but this has been extended before, and when it does expire you can go for their £10 goodybag bundle with unlimited internet and texts and 150 (temporarily 250) minutes
