Even though the company has gone bust, that is a good price for an eReader that actually got some pretty good reviews when it was launched: it was considered reasonable but not best of breed.
A big plus is the book formats it supports: most importantly ePub and PDF. I'd recommend paying a visit to http://www.gutenberg.org for a large collection of out of copyright books (aka "classics") I assume the Cool-er eBook store is no longer operating, but as the Cool-er supports Adobe Editions DRM (Digital Rights Management) you should still be able to purchase books from sites like http://www.waterstones.com - Though if it were me, and wanted to do that, I'd first buy the absolute cheapest DRM'd book there and test the theory. Amazon are out of the question (can't imagine why they don't sell formats for eReaders other than the Kindle
) but you will be able to use it with your local library eBook scheme.
I'd also recommend Calibre (http://calibre-ebook.com) Install it on your computer and let it manage your eBook collection, download books to your eReader and even get free daily newspapers such as The Guardian and The Daily Mail (to get both ends of the spectrum) through it. Very cool, and you don't have to pay for it (though I donated because I thought it was so good)
Finally, if you are technically savvy, the latest (aka "last") firmware can also be found on the net, though you need to hunt it down. (hint:http://www.mobileread.com/forums is a good place to start:D)
For anyone else reading this thread and considering what brand of eReader to get, or even whether to get a tablet to read books, can I suggest that you physically try them out first. I have a pocket Sony (350) and I got to try out my brother's Kindle at Xmas. To be honest, I hated the Kindle for reading. The screen was fine (and bigger than the Sony) but the button positions were all wrong for me and I found it difficult to hold comfortably without either mashing the keys or getting cramp in my hand. I'll accept this may just be because I'm used to mine plus I recognise the Kindle is cheaper and has features like WiFi which mine doesn't and, of course, it has the Amazon store for books behind it, but I wouldn't swap if given the chance to do so.
You really have to play off two factors: it is no good buying an eReader if there are no books you want available versus it is no good having lots of books for your reader if you find it too uncomfortable reading with it. You can judge the books by looking online, but you need to hold the device to know if you'll be happy using it. If you don't know friends with an eReader, go to John Lewis to test drive a Kindle and a Sony and any others they may sell.
As far as tablets go, if you want a computer that you can also use to read the occasional book, they are fine, but you are not going to want to make a habit of reading on it. They are heavy (relatively), the screen's flicker and backlight can cause eye strain and the battery life won't even see you through a medium haul flight.
Oops another Stumpy novel on eReaders. Better stop now before I run out of eInk :rotfl:

SPCome on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.0 -
Best booklight ever. Very flexy, puts the light exactly where you need it and stays clamped firmly.
i have been looking at something similar I believe http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mighty-Bright-XtraFlex2-LED-Light/dp/1933622709 was £8.97 delivered after xmas gone up now unfortunately.0 -

Those are the same thing as the one I linked. When you find one listed as "xtra flex" and look at the picture, it says "mighty bright" on the unit, though not all mention both names in the title. Wouldn't hurt to search both names as prices vary by a few quid depending on seller.
Mine is the xtra flex 2 and it has 2 led lights and you can use it with one or both on (it's pink and says Mighty Bright on the clamp). Hubby has the original with just one light, both are great. Took me awhile to get one myself as the price seems high, but considering how any other booklight I buy goes unused because they just don't work well, this one is worth the cost. Think I paid 11.99.0 -
havent read whole thread so apologies if this has been said before but i got one of those flexi lights at poundland just before christmas. its brilliant, very bright and very flexibleWhen you know better you do better0

Im just looking for a cheap e-reader & cool-er reader at £60-odd sounds good. But I do have one criterion that I haven't been able to find an asnwer to - was hoping some of you kind MSErs may be able to help.
Is there any e-reader that displays non-latin based text, without the need of additional software/upgrades etc. I know some e-readers display languages like russian, but I was thinking about language which are completley different to english, eg. Arabic, Japanese, Urdu, Hindi etc.
If there aren't any e-readers for these languages, does anyone know how the 'convert' them to display these languages (as well as english)?
Once I know what can or can't be done, it'll help me decide which e-reader to buy.
