A new version 2.2 of the has been released today in the App Store. The reported changes are:
    • Handling new encoding type from BT
    • Fixed some users not being able to connect
    • Fixed in call search bar
    • Fixed non dismissal of keyboard for hotspot search
It will be interesting to see whether this makes any difference.

It has made absolutely no difference to me at all. I still connect to BT Openzone OK only for the Orange WiFi app to tell me I've connected to a WiFi network that has no connection to the internet. What a waste of space and money. I don't think I'll be renewing with Orange again.

Yes, I get this same issue, all my colleagues on Vodafone T-Mobile and O2 can connect fine to the Openzone, just me that cant, I have reset my wifi password, several times and editing in the app. No such Luck
  • I've been with O2 since it first offered the iPhone and apart from the initial few months I've never managed to get the automatic login to work. Worse, I now have to turn OFF wifi to stop Openzone cybersquattting on my data and blocking the 3G signal.Basically BTopenzone is broken and they should sort it out or turn it off. BTW BT Fon isn't much better.

The easy solution in your case is, when you're within range of a BT Openzone hotspot, go into the wireless connection within Settings, and choose "Forget this Network". You don't need to turn wifi off altogether.

I got my iPhone 4 two years ago, this featured worked fine, was able to connect all over. Then over a year ago it stopped working. I have made around 10 calls. About this with responses varying around:

    Orange wifi app
    Issue new password
    Reset network settings
    Popup password
    Passing me through to AppleCare

None of this worked, I believe this is to do with both sides, I think whatever payments were due to bt were NOT paid by orange thus bt blocks access.

It's nothing to do with us or our phone set up, I noticed this issue when I couldn't connect in my usual places, so I had not changed a thing, can't even connect while in Starbucks.

I will be writing olaf.swantee@orange.co.uk who is the CEO he will forward any complaints to executive.office@orange.co.uk, to action. I have complained in this fashion on many occasions and gotten a result. I would request that everyone does this, after all you are paying for something you cannot use!

I've recently found Orange's wifi app to be much more reliable. Whenever I connect to a BT Openzone hotspot, I launch the app and I am connected within a couple of seconds. Although we should not need an app (because authentication should be by MAC address like The Cloud and O2 Wifi), this is nevertheless a welcome improvement.
