So all you people trying to make me look stupid and make yourself look like the clever adult, IT'S NOT WORKING !!!
No need for temper tantrums... People are taking time out of their day to give you advice and try and help you. You seem to be struggling with the answer they're giving which comes down to a big, fat "NO".My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.
They are not a substitute for professional financial advice - but you knew that already didn't you?VSP 2011 - Member #25 - Started 6th December 2010 - Total As Of 4th May 2011 (21 weeks in!) - £323.67/£500 - So far so good!0 -
I don't know thats why I asked, if I knew the answer to my question I wouldn't of asked would I. There could of been a special loan for travlers I don't know because I don't work at a bank.

I think this is a wind up, nobody is that naive in real life.0 -
Benchy, the problem is most people work pretty hard just to make ends meet. There are people in debt because they just wanted to keep a roof over their heads and feed their kids.. But you want to borrow money to 'discover yourself'. We really want to prevent yourself being in debt for your entire 20s (and starting a lifetime of being in debt)
Get a basic job (i presume you are not paying rent..) save up a couple of grand - yes this might take a few months, but it'll be an important few months where you learn to budget and manage your finances - trust me, that will be important while travelling. It might also give you time to find out where you want to go.
This website - http://www.thetravellerslounge.co.uk/currencycosts.htm suggests you will spend about a grand a month. Now if you want to do this for a year, you are going to need serious dosh. The sort of money that could go towards a house deposit.
Do you want to get home a year later, realise it's going to take you 4 - 10 years to repay your debts and save for your first home?
Can you look at working AND travelling? Flying out to Thailand, working in a bar for a bit, then moving around.. ? It would seriously help you if you had some experience of working in the UK before you went.
Don't get too upset by people on this forum - often people say things in unsympathetic and uncaring ways - but their sentiment is kinder than that. They don't want to see you messing up for the sake of some immediate fun.
Financially, i used part of my student loan and overdraft to fund a 5 week driving trip around the USA when i was 21. Must have cost about 2.5k, it was pretty awesome. I got out of uni fairly debt free, so i managed to pay off all debts after a couple of years.0 -
OMG! I can not express in words what you lot on here are. You are sat at home going look at me I'm cleverer than an 18 year old I know more then him YOUR SAD !
I only asked a simple question yes you answerd it saying no, then I expressed that I needed it badly and was there anything else you could do to help me. Then you slate me for something I know nothing about THATS WHY I ASKED THE (SWEAR WORD) QUESTION.0 -

To be fair, it is.
You will not become a better person by going on a long jolly. Chances are that sunbathing in Oz will not help you decide what you want to do with your life either.
If you want to know what to do with your life, do some voluntary work to get some experience. You can do that here with the aid of Google. It's free.Gone ... or have I?0 -

I imagine that if anyone was thinking that, they would consider themselves more clever as opposed to cleverer. Also you are = you're not your.
Back to college maybe?Gone ... or have I?0 -
I totally understand what you are saying but I'm 18 years old and I'm going no where in life. And the reasoning for travelling is to try to make something of myself or find out what to do with it.
And if I started to save the earliest I would be able to travel is when im 90 years old lol
So will you help me now ? Im guessing your gunna say no lol
Hi benchy
Have you thought about working abroad. ?

To avoid any further confusion, the answer is no.
No special loands for travelers to go off on a jolly.
Working abroad is a good suggestion, look into that futher."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -

OMG! I can not express in words what you (Benchy) are. You are sat at home going look at me I don't care what the people I've asked for advice say, I want to go to Australia NOW *stamps foot*
Not all of us are sat at home...I only asked a simple question yes you answerd it saying no, then I expressed that I needed it badly and was there anything else you could do to help me. Then you slate me for something I know nothing about THATS WHY I ASKED THE (SWEAR WORD) QUESTION.
We said you've no chance of a loan and you need to save. That's not what you want to hear so you start stamping your feet saying you need it badly?!?
No-one NEEDS a holiday. It's a luxury that you have to save for. What you need are a roof over your head, food, water, heating and clothes. The rest of the stuff people have in life are mostly "wants".
P.S. No-one is slating you for not knowing about what's available. However, you ignoring the advice given to you will irk some people.
P.P.S. I want a Rolex watch and have been fancying one or two on ebay (much cheaper than your holiday too!) - however, I know the limits of my finances and have decided to not get one as I have a car service, MOT and tax looming - the money would be better put there. I'm going to save for my watch. You need to learn that you have to prioritise where your money goes and save for what you want. I *want* a Rolex, my car *needs* an MOT, service and tax.My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.
