For a flight of an hour, do you really expect and need to be served free food and drink? You don't get that on buses and trains. Fly EasyJet from Stansted to Newcastle and the flight is less than 40 minutes in the air which hardly gives the staff time to serve a cup of tea and for you to drink it.

I also don't understand familes who fly on the budget carriers because they are cheaper than splash out more than their ticket price on rubbish onboard snacks for everyone. Can't they just go without stuffing their faces for an hour or so or come prepared?

If it hardly gives the staff time to serve food and drink on a short domestic flight why do they still SELL them on budget airlines?

I agree with your second point:D

For the simple reason that people will buy them. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I agree, and I think that was malkie76's point as well - responding to those who would rather fly BA for the sake of a (mini) bag of pretzels! ;)

That's putting words I didn't type onto my keyboard - I was listing what you got 'extra', not whether it was worth paying extra for.

And I said nothing as to whether I'd rather fly BA or not.:p

    Rhetorical question:D

By the way you seemed to have given a wide berth to my questioning of your allegation that BA and Ryanair compensation claims were on a par with regard to the "volcanic ash episode"

Check out Steve 1500's thread Reply from Ryanair Compensation in the Volcano Travel Chaos Info Board with a mere:o158 entries -this seems to somewhat contradict your assertion....

I was going to say that you've quoted the wrong post, but then realised you might have thought I was including you in that group. I wasn't, I know you've got more about you than to jump on some bandwagon on the basis of a Daily Mail story. ;)

I have a wider knowledge of the subject than what I read on MSE. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if overhead locker hand luggage charges are introduced for weekend flights.

Easier checkin, choice of seat, more baggage, drinks, food, more frequent service, more transparent pricing, lack of scratchcards......

You may or may not think these are worth paying (much) extra for - where the fare is in fact higher - but they are all pluspoints

You have forgot to mention that BA are less likely to abandon you at an isolated aerodrome and require you to find and finance your own way home.
