How have these Budget Airlines Got Away With It ?

Actually if you examine the statistics the expansion of Air Travel has generally enfranchised the "Middle Classes" and enabled them to take more foreign holidays and buy holiday homes etc - it has done nothing for the single mother on a sink estate.
I agree with your comment about foregoing the extras IF you get a cheap flight but you do realise they never come back even when you pay National Carrier fares on a Budget airline.:D
You obviously haven't flown with Ryanair!0 -
BA took as long as Ryanair in sorting claims, even for those with ff status.
Have you got something against BA ?
I see on another part of this forum people are having to take Ryanair through the Irish Small Claims Court to get their money back-funnily there is no mention of the UK small claims courts being deluged by vexed BA customers.0 -

I fly BA more than I fly Ryanair. In terms of economy travel, my preferred airline is KLM. I am guessing that I just have a more realistic view of the airlines than yourself.Gone ... or have I?0 -

Touche.....
Actually I used to fly Air France quite a bit as from Edinburgh it is a quick to get to Paris (not much longer than London) which opens up the whole AF network which is often cheaper than BA. Similar with KLM from Birmingham going via Amsterdam. Mind you AF and KLM are one and the same now.
You can't seriously compare Ryanair with AF/KLM/BA and say you prefer it....pull the other one :mad:0 -

What more do you get flying short haul with BA than you do with Ryanair?Gone ... or have I?0 -

Easier checkin, choice of seat, more baggage, drinks, food, more frequent service, more transparent pricing, lack of scratchcards......
You may or may not think these are worth paying (much) extra for - where the fare is in fact higher - but they are all pluspoints0 -

I check in online irrespective of who I fly with.
I get to choose my seat on Ryanair - I actually find that I get more choice with them.
I take hand luggage only.
I think you mean a drink and a pretty inedible sandwich. I buy from Pret anyway, I don't eat food in economy.
Service frequency is down to location, on some routes the low cost airlines have more convenient flights.
More transparent pricing - don't you mean more simple? I would say Ryanair is far more transparent!
I sit down and put my headphones in - I can honestly say I've never even noticed them!Gone ... or have I?0 -
BA domestic is reduced to a small bag of pretzels or crisps.Legal team on standby0

OP do you class Easyjet as a budget airline? Just wondering, as when you look for fares with them, the taxes are included in the price you see at first. Granted the hold luggage isn't, you pay extra for that, but if you don't need it anyway, what difference does it make whether its included in the first price you see or not?
As a traveller from a regional airport area of the country, I have a choice of 3 budget carriers, and no comparative "big" airline company at all (certainly not one which doesn't charge at least twice the price of the budget carrier for the same journey).
Budget carriers work very well for me, short haul and domestic.0
