Well I like a bit of evil meself sometimes. I do a good evil :D
I'd like to ask please, how much lentils I can get away with in my mince, without tasting them ? Fedup of the RV eating 3 meals at one sitting , and if I cut down on meat he whines like hell. I buy only lamb mince, dont like beef. I add all the veg I can scrape off the bottom of the fridge. Tried adding oatmeal but we hated it.
Also has anybody found a good site for soup recipes ? Plain OS ones, not fancy. (fancy in this house covers a very wide area :D.)

Mardatha, does pulse mix count as fancy?

I have been cooking the weekend meat in the slow cooker with carrots and onions. When the meat is done I add bisto to the water and we have the meat and veg with extra veg and potatoes for lunch.

Then with the left over carrots, onions and gravy, I add a couple of chopped potatoes, some extra veg, some pulse mix and the veg and potato water with some herbs, s&p. Cook in slow cooker for a few hours and enough soup to last a good few days. I might add a it of chopped up meat to it if I'm feeling generous. I adda little more bisto when it's done.

mardatha I just put a cup or so of lentils in with mince but it doesn't bother me if I taste them as I like lentils. Have you tried using the dried soya protien mince from health food shops to bulk it up a bit? I know a lot of people swear by that. I just add lots of extra veggies like carrots, onions and mushrooms to make my mince go further but my husband is happy with an entirely vegetarian diet as well so that helps me get away with more!

Yes grandma247, I have thought about a steamer but then I'd have to buy one.Mysieve is pastic so couldn't buy that on top of a normal pan. Might invest in a steamer as we have boiled potatoes a lot.
Soup ....mmmm..... I just love it. I like stick to the ribs type, ham and split pea etc. Have you tried searching something like 'Scottish recipes' through google Mardatha? Re the mince - I haven't tried the lentils but do add oatmeal because we love it. It's like having a mealie pudding mashed through your mince (also known as white pudding ;)). Yum yum. I also braise carrots and swede in the pan with the mince and serve with other veg as well. This all helps stretch it a bit. My DH would be like you RV and would eat more otherwise.

Don't know if this will help but what i do is 3or 4 good handfuls to 400g mince. I put them in the jug with the stock cube and add the boiling water stirring to dissolve said cube, this is done first before I start frying off onions, veg and mince etc quick stir befoere adding the stock so that lentils are all incorporated, then just let it simmer as normal, stirring occassionally so as not to let them stick
