    • Crumpets
    • 475g plain flour
    • good pinch of salt
    • 1 tsp sugar
    • 2 tsp fast-action dried yeast
    • 300ml warm milk
    • 300ml warm water
Add the flour and salt into a bowl and add the sugar and yeast making a well in the centre. Pour in the warm milk and water and mix to give quite a thick consistency. Beat well and leave for about an hour.
Grease some rings and put in a frying pan with a spoonful of oil, pour in some mixture. Cook until holes appear. Then take off rings and turn over crumpets.

Urgh...my washing machines have been down for over a week (nearly 2 now) my absolute genius of a OH over tightened the plastic splitter so i could plumb in 2 cold feeds, needless to say if i try and fill either machine water just sprays everywhere from the cracked splitter....he has yet to correct it, keeps forgetting or he will DO IT TOMORROW, if i ever hear him utter those words again I WILL KILL HIM.

Lauren - this seems like a simple thing to put right yourself.....(although I'm sure hubby will tell you otherwise!). Get down to a plumbing store and ask what splitter you need to buy and then how fit it from start to finish. I've amazed myself sometimes, by what I've been able to do.
It may also be that hubby will not want you "fiddling" when he sees you getting started - and will come over and do the job himself. (Lets hope so!)

It is very tough. When I finalised last month's accounts yesterday I had averaged £2 a day on food for 5 of us! I don't know how much further I can pare that amount down, but I will have to make cuts somewhere. DH was paid yesterday and based on essential outgoings this month we will have just under £2.50 of our overdraft to play with:eek:

just catching up on this thread as not had much time lately and wanted to say Justamum - thats brilliant, well done:T dont know how you managed it!

    Definitely necessity, not desire :rotfl:

OS tip - I use those rough shower gloves when I have a shower. I bought another pair the other day, so my old ones have now been relegated to being used as bathroom cloths. I've just used them to clean the shower, bath and sinks, and they work much better than a cloth!

No thanks. I like to be friends with real people.....by the way one tip I have for saving money is to get off your backsides and turn the PCs off. Your electricity bills would plummet I suspect..

    Goodbye folks..:p

:) ah well. Hello my lovely friends in here - I just know that you are real :)
My tip of the day, and I know this is done by all of you I'm sure, is that when I cook veg, I do it all in one pan (not potatoes though). I keep the electricity use to a minimum.

I use a steamer pan so I cook potatoes in the pan and veg on top.

Well isn't that strange, the poster has removed the original post.

You can get special crumpets rings, or use a large metal cookie cutter
