Flossy's my mum, as you might have gathered! She's currently having an op, so we have to send her lots of get well love.

Have had a chat over the weekend to DF, and we decided that Balliol (College, my old one) is just too inflexible for us. We want somewhere where we don't HAVE to have the catering they supply (we want a hog/lamb roast!) and where we can bring our own wine (they wanted £8 corkage ), so it's back to the drawing board for venues...

If either of you Jan 2012 ladies knows of a lovely barn/country house type place, or something unusual, but countryside-y, woods-y, rustic, and FLEXIBLE in Oxfordshire, Cotswolds, Chiltern Hills area, or over more towards Gloucestershire even, I'd love to know about it! All the places I keep seeing insist on providing a 3 course meal for x amount per head, and we want to personalise things a bit more than that!

    xx

Oh Lopsie that sounds fab!!! Must be amazing to get married somewhere like that!!

Jojo - sorry I can't help out with the Oxford area, wrong country for me as I'm getting married in South West Scotland!

In answer to your question about my dress. It is a strapless number which bottons down the back. It is a full skirt with a train approx 4 feet long. The colour is more champagne than cream etc and the silver on it is actually glitter in a star burst design. I have hunted and hunted for it online but can't find a picture to show you. The attached tag is Dizzie Lizzie and the design is christobelle, but when I look these up the only christobelle dress I can find isn't by DL. Tried every combination but cant find it.
There is a large amount of netting underneath at the back and when I get it taken up I'm also going to get the netting made detachable so that at night when the dress is looped up the netting isn't trailing and hopefully that will be all that needs done!

I bought my dress off the peg in a local shop, the bridal section in another branch had closed down and they sent some dresses down to sell off. I saw it in the window and had to have it! I also got it for £700 off the sale price which was excellent :D

Tiaras organised, just got to buy the bits and bobs for them now but I think I can get all 5 for less than a tenner which is great considering they will probably get thrown off and chucked about the floor! I love kids! lol

What's everyone doing for their flowers? I have made my flowergirls wands out of black and white roses with crystals on wire and wrapped up in black ribbon. I am going to be making the button holes for the important people out of the same stuff but putting OHs tartan ribbon round them.

I was originally going to make my own bouquet aswell but have decided to get a real one so that it can go on OHs sisters grave. It will have the same crystals in it and also some pearls from a necklace belonging to my late nanny that unfortunately broke.

Trouble is, I don't know what style to go for and not even sure what flowers are in season! Help!!!

    Hello Lopsie!

Well, yesterday and today I've been mainly trying on wedding dresses. I was AMAZED that a strapless dress looks nice (I hate my arms and thought I would get boob spillage!)

I also found that I need something that focuses on the waist, although I'd looked at a lot of empire line styles, but the ones that aren't fitted around the waist make me look like a galleon in full sail; fitted waist dresses make me look about 2 sizes smaller than I am!!

I have no idea about flowers, except that my mum and I will do them between us; I'd asked my Great Aunt who is amazing at them, but she said she feels she has bad days and good days and couldn't guarantee to have the energy to do them (which is a shame, but I'm glad she was honest!)

Since I think we will go for gold, green and probably a lovely smoky plum shade, I guess there will be ivy, gold flowers and plum coloured flowers! Helpful, aren't I! :rotfl:

Here's two pics of me in the dresses I SO did not expect to suit me:

:DThanks MrsC! I'm looking at styles, as I think I will go with Linda (the resident dressmaker lady here) to make one. Much more MSE, more personal, and I get a dress made just for me!

Sounds like a plan to me! At least you now know not to discount other styles and have a broader range to choose from!
Originally I was going to get mine made, and have a column style with long sleeves. Until I saw my dress and had to have it!!! It cost me £449 which was £700 off the original selling price as the bridal section in a store 75 miles away was closing and they sent some dresses through to the local branch to see if they could sell them (the put one at a time in the window and sold every one of them apart from one!). Really really must try to get a pic of it onto my computer to show you all!

I'm not too bothered about H2B knowing many of the details, he knows what the kids are going to be wearing, and what colour and stuff. He hasn't seen their wands yet and even though he keeps asking what colour or style my dress is I have been a good girl and not told him! Everytime he mentions it I say something different about it. It has been green with pink spots and huge one say, the next day its a short 50s style dress with vibrant colours. He has no idea!!!

  • A friend who is making the flowergirl's tiaras has just been in with a book that she bought after I asked her if she would like to do it (she loves jewellery making and is making their necklaces and bracelets, and fancies branching out a bit). I have just googles the author and on her website the tiaras are costing upwards of £70 EACH! I am hoping to have 5 similar ones made for a tenner (materials only) and then something for her time after that!
    They are gorgeous tho!
