Glad it's not just me then. I'm just praying that it doesn't snow on the day.
Where are you getting married?0 -
If we go for the venue we are both keen on (we have to work out the budget first), then in Oxford. It's perfect, as DF and I both went to Uni there, and we had our third date there, plus since we are both from families where the 'rentals are divorced and have moved away from childhood homes, neither of us feels strongly about getting married close to parents' homes.
How about you? How are plans coming?
I'm LOVING looking at wedding dresses, have drawn up a draft budget and guest list, and have started a wedding planner (not an official one, just a pretty book from Paperblanks as all the 'real' ones were hideous! :rotfl:). Oh, and I've signed up for newsletters etc from various sites, and done a 'moodboard' on Dessy, which is great fun.
Share the excitement January lovelies! What have you been up to so far?!!
Oh, and does anyone else think that the whole 'date/venue/budget/guest list' part is hopelessly entangled? We have the offer of a date from our venue, but to decide we have to set budget, which depends on guest list... I thought venue and date came first!!

Hi
My DF and I LOVE Oxford. What a fabulous choice for venue, it's such a romantic place.
I've called in various favours so have most things sorted, just got to decide what colour I'm having (I had decided in cadburys purpoe but have now changed my mind as a close member of DF's family is having the same in November this year and don't want to jump on the band wagon!) so think I'm going for a midnight blue.
So far I've only tried one dress on but have seen a fabulous one online that I'm going to go and try on in the next couple of weeks. Not sure how true it is, but I have been told that the new 2011 / 2012 ranges will be in shops from the end of this month so am going to leave it until after then.
Strange question I know, but what are you doing for music? An ex-colleague of my DF is a singer / DJ and he's offered to do both for us but not sure how long I want him there for, whether to have him singing / music during the wedding meal or whether just to have him at night - decisions decisions !!:(0 -
I am getting married on the curling rink in a local hotel as we met through the sport (see my Our Story thread!).
I already have my dress - since last June - and it only needs taken up a little as I will be wearing my curling shoes to get married and then changing into sparkly flip flop! Comfort all the way!
All the men and boys in the bridal party are wearing kilts and I'm hoping to keep daytime numbers under 60 and then have about 250 at night!
5 flowergirls - H2Bs daughter announced the other night when they were told about us that she couldnt be a flowergirl as she has nothing to wear. When I said we would get her a pretty dress she wants it with 'sparkles and diamonds and a tiara' so now I'm organising tiaras for the wee ones which they weren't originally getting! I have all the flowergirl wands made and wrapped in tissue in the loft, and I'm going to be making all the important peoples buttons holes.
Not having bridesmaids as such but I still need the help so I'm having 'ladies in waiting'. 6 of them! I asked them all if they wanted to co-ordinate with the bridal party which they did and they have ended up going and getting the same dress at a complete bargainous £30 each from M&Co!
My colours are red and black, with my dress being a champagne colour with silver on - its awfy big, or bigger than I thought I would have.
Mum already has her outfit, took her shopping one night and she only needs a wrap now.
Step-mum and MIL2B still to kit out, but plenty time for that!
Photographer - still to decide, have got a couple of offers, but I am defo having a guy who's well known in the curling world there to do candid pics - it will be right up his street and he is loving having been asked!
Evening entertainment? Sister offered to pay for a friends husband sing as our present, he has been doing it for years and sang at sisters wedding and also her friends. I have also had the offer of a disco for nothing!
Hair and make-up sorted. My usual hairdresser doesnt normally go out of the salon but she said she would as it's a winter wedding and I've said once I get into the hotel on the friday I'm not leaving until the Sunday (unless it snows then I will go outside for some pics), and a friends doing my make up, she just needs to take the day off work!
The hotel is big enough that if my guest list changes then I can use a different room and they are basically keeping all areas free until we decide which room we need!
Bonus of being in the hotel - no cars to fork out for!
Don't think I have done anymore than that......yet!!!No longer ...tobe! Married 20/06/13MFW 2021 #117 £5415.40/£6000MFW 2022 #77 £3740/£3000MFW 2023 #82 £0/£30000 -

We love Oxford too! It has such good memories for both of us! The only problem I can foresee, which my mum pointed out, is parking. The Park and Ride is great, but I'm not sure people would be happy with that if they're turning up in their outfits... We might have to do some more research!
As for colours, check out the Dessy website. If you register, you can use the Pantone colour tool, and drag and drop colour swatches, bridesmaid dresses, flowers, cakes etc onto a 'Mood Board' to see what works. I think I will have gold (old gold colour), ivy green (as I want ivy and holly for part of the flowers) and dusky plum. It's great fun to try different combos though. Cadbury purple seems pretty popular right now, but that has the advantage that lots of stuff will be available, and maybe at MSE prices too!
I'm going dress shopping in the next week, to a couple of different prices, but I'm thinking I will find a shape that suits and have a dressmaker make it, as the prices are horrendous! Also my lovely mum has offered to pay for it, but I have to be aware of her budget constraints! Not fair to spend lots of her cash.
Music wise, we are both pretty musical, and we have friends who are too, so we think we will ask them to help out. We definitely like the idea of a small choir in chapel.
Music during the wedding breakfast is cool, but I would say you'll notice it more in the evening. Maybe it would have more impact if he sang during the drinks reception (assuming you're having one), and then DJ'd at night, or sang? I think during the meal, people will be so busy enjoying the food and chatting that it might get a bit lost! Really cool that he offered though!
Have a great weekend! If at first you don't succeed, then sky-diving isn't for you

Blimey Mrs C! You've practically arranged the whole thing! I'm so far behind you, very impressed though.
What's your dress? Sounds lovely! I don't know anything about curling, but from reading your other thread, it's so cool that you are doing something so personal to you both!If at first you don't succeed, then sky-diving isn't for you

Hi
JoJo - have you thought about maybe getting married in the centre of oxford but have your reception somewhere else? I've stayed at the Malmaison in Oxford (the old prison) and I think that's got parking. Either that or maybe arrange for a coach / bus from one place to another - maybe speak to the park & ride people as I presume that they stop running early on.
Also, thanks for the tip about Dessy, I'll have a look there now.
MrsC to be - I read your story just before you posted on this link and it sounds so romantic. I hope you post pics on here so we can all see. Also sounds like you are very organised.
Have a great weekend everyone !0 -
Oxford is the choice at mo as Jojo and H2B went to different colleges there. Problem is colleges seem to be missing a trick in being flexible as to how things are arranged. So whole point is to use the college facilities such as Chapel and Great Hall. Don't think even the Malmaison has enough parking if guests chose to stay there instead of in college rooms.
Oxford is definitely a beautiful city but decidedly NOT user friendly. Bit like Reading in that regard.
Perhaps Le Manoir is the answer.....:rotfl::rotfl:
Exciting times all round.0
