The Nations Credit Card - must I pay? (I was never an authorised cardholder!)

Am I alone in thinking that every time I have seen G Osborne on the box lately, he has been on about paying off "the Nations Credit Card"?

If I am to understand him correctly he is suggesting that I need to contribute but I have never been an authorised cardholder and I don't remember signing any credit agreement. Worse than that, my kids are not old enough for college yet and I didn't think they could even be party to a credit agreement until they were at least 18 yet he is very much saying they have to pay £30 a week too right now and up to £9,000 a year soon.

Am I obliged to pay? It seems I am already being forced to pay debt I never agreed to. Surely he can't make the kids pay? Can I in fact claim a refund and compensation for Distress and Inconvenience?

Is this an example of an unenforceable debt that I could sidestep using another government scheme i.e. the one that people licensed by the Ministry of Justice constantly bombard me with in cold calls?

I was re-watching Harrison Ford in Clear and Present Danger the other night. He worked for the government and handed over a card and 10 minutes later had bought a £2M Huey helicopter in Bogota - I didn't even see them make a call before handing him the keys - was that one of these Nation credit cards perhaps??

If so I think they are dangerous and I don't want one anyway.

Can anyone tell me how to get my money back and tell my kids how to tell G Osborne where to stick his card?

Place yourself and your kids beyond the jurisdiction of UK courts.
  • You did sign up to this.. every time you voted you elected someone to make the decisions for you on what to buy with the nation's credit card. Whoever gets the most votes gets to spend, spend spend!

    That's democracy for you

P.S If you didn't vote then you have no right to complain

And if you voted Tory (or the joke that is Liberal) you have even less right to complain.

I am lucky where I have a salary at a level where no matter what taxes increase, or how much inflation or interest rates go up, my lifestyle will not alter.
It does make my laugh though, how loads of the electorate are whinging about the Tory/Libs and the pressure they are placing on us.
Let us not forget, that a HUGE majority of the moaners put these idiots in power in the first place.

My wife an I, with our 2 little ones, are currently looking to move out of Europe. (I am a born and bred Londoner). Normal white, working class (not salary) family. To have to take these steps and leave my own country is drastic, but what else is there for us?
In the last 15-20 years me, along with most of you have been sick to the back teeth of supporting every Tom, !!!!!! and Ranjit, not to metion the massive payouts to Brussels that we get sod all in return for. Now it seems, we have to support bloody Cameron and his side kick aswell.

Most of the electorate had enough of Labour and voted without a thought for the consequences. Now is the time to reap the non-reward for having no idea about what you are voting for.

    I like it :T

I think George was posting on the 'debt free wanabee' board last week using an assumed name & pretending that the debts were with the provident.

One of the responses was to not acknowledge the debt, & make it unenforceable. He failed there didn't he!
  • Don't think you can go blaming the co-alition Government all they are doing is mopping up after Labour's shambolic running of the economy.

It would not have been any better if a Labour Government had been re-elected. One day they would have had to face up to the problem of their overspending the same as the rest of us have to.

Expressions like 'paying off the nation's credit card' are just stupid. On a par with 'asking' people to pay more tax. I've never been asked. I've been forced to pay tax, under threat of punishment if I don't.
  • Don't worry, it's all the fault of: bankers, chelsea tractor drivers, car owners generally, people who fly - particularly a long way and/or in business class, non-doms, company bosses, fat cats etc etc.

The government should just tax other people more.

Sorry, but that is pure fantasy.
Yes, any government would have to 'reign in the spending', but the Torys/Libs have targetted the areas that will save the least, but have the most impact on the nation.

I look forward to seeing if you have a similar outlook when:
a). Inflation goes above 7% (which is likely)
    and/or
b). Interest rates hit 8%+ and you cannot afford your mortgage repayments
    and/or
c). you cannot afford to run you car as you will be paying £1.70p per litre or more (and yes it is their fault with the VAT hike and tax hike)

These people swore they would never raise VAT for example. What did they do? Not only raise it, but said it would NEVER be lowered.

You need to think through your argument before specualting that they are 'just doing what any government would do, as they clearly and simply are not acting this way.

They are acting this way! they were voted in to fix the economy and pay back the £150b a YEAR defecit. We're all suffering, but this is what we correctly voted for. Inflation will reach 4% not 7%, if interest rates reach 8% - well that's only a bit above the long term average.

Thousands of public sector jobs have been lost that should never have been jobs in the first place. We're in for a painful few years as LABOURS MESS is rectified. If you don't like it.. leave.

And I'd love a quote "We'll never raise VAT" - it's always been considered the sensible option by everyone apart from opposition governments!

    I certainly agree with that!
