There are lots of threads on the Families board that you might be able to pick a few ideas from too.

Hi!
Happy birthday to your little one!
I would get some books from www.thebookpeople.co.uk or www.schoollink.co.uk or www.redhouse.co.uk - they are all part of the same group and do childrens books really cheaply!
You can get a bag of 10 books for under £10! And these are proper sizes not minis! At the moment are doing pack of 6 Usborne Fairytale Sticker books for about 4.99 and LOADS of other offers! If your school is registered with Schoollink then 10% goes to school to choose free books as well! Bargainous or what!
Take a look - think there are free p&p codes available as well but is free anyway if your order is over £25 and you get a free gift (book!) as well on schoollink/bookpeople. Think redhouse is doing 10% off as well at the moment!
Hope it goes well
Cheers

I thought this site had some good deals on traditional kids' toys, suitable for party bags eg set of wooden pick up sticks for 99p - as much as £4.99 on other sites. Any use?

That sounds a lovely venue. It's my daughters 7th birthday in a few weeks, we are also in the south west, whereabouts is this venue please.0

If you sew, given the above idea for low cost books, how about a drawstring book bag to put them in? The kids can keep them for school. Are they old enough for a craft activity at the party? Results to be taken home.If you think reality makes sense, you're just not paying attention!0
