Ideas needed for Party Bag fillers

Its my DD birthday party in less than 2weeks time. I've booked the hall, disco, sorted out what foods to have for the buffet. Made a list of the disposable plates & cutlery I need -
Just stuck for ideas what to put in her guests party bags
I usually spend a fortune on balloons, small toys, sweets, etc to put inside bags, (aswell as a bit of birthday cake) but i feel that no matter what I spend, it always looks cheap/tacky. Not only that, if its anything like my daughter, the bag's contents usually last 2 days before ending up in the bin

She will be 7, the average age of the kids are 6-7yr old. Both boys and girls

Please help - open to suggestions and if this thread is in the wrong department, please feel free to move - I understand
Thanks in advance

  • It's so easy to get carried away with party bags isn't it? This year for DD2, who was 9 in September I went to Home and Bargain and bought some Polly Pocket dolls and mini baby born dolls - they are only £1 but they look really good - they are at least £5 when full price. I wrapped them all up in different wrapping paper and had a going home lucky dip, which they all loved! IT meant that the total cost was much less and the kids had a proper toy which they could play with. DD2 is still playing with the mini baby born - it had a mini BB doll, two outfits and a potty. The Polly Pockets had a PP doll and three outfits and a little car. They also had Shellies and mini bratzes but I think they were £2 each.

Book people and Red door used to sell box sets (7 books) of the party fairies series for £6.99, I thought these would be great as a gift for Girls instead of party bags.

Hi, I have a 7 year old and a 3 year old's party to cater for after christmas and I have just seen this company. Although a little on the tacky side still, some of their things look really good.

For the 7 yr olds I am looking at the slinkies and travel games and for the 3 year old I am looking at the Fairy wands and tiara's and play shoes.

Claires accessories were doing their mystery pack things at £2 bogof so for £1 you could give each girl a claires access. bag. They usually have a good mix of bits in and everyone is different.

Hi, thanks for the ideas so far, I was thinking on the lines of travel size games. Been watching some on e-bay, they work out around 30p each.

Like the idea of PP sets, is Home and Bargain shop local? as I've never heard of it here

    Thanks guys

Just had my DD's birthday (5th) and we did a couple of balloons (bag of 100 from Poundland), a couple of lollies (BOGOF at Wilkinsons) and a book from the Book People ("Little Miss Series" for the girls and "Thomas the Tank Engine" for the boys) the books worked out about 50-60p each although they may not have these exact ones anymore. We had 25 kids in a hall, and had a circus skills entertainer even with food and party bags I had change out of £90 and universal thankyous for something to keep rather than put in the bin.

I don't think that Home Bargains is local to Merseyside - I think they are all over the north, but I could be wrong. I love it though because they have great stuff - I think there is a Home Bargains thread on here somewhere.

  • Title says it all really,

My daughter is 5 in a few days, her party is being held at a traditional play centre (well just a room with sofas etc.) The place is lovely, very calming, with beautiful dress up costumes, wooden toys, colouring, trad games etc.

I want to keep with the theme and dont want to ply the kids with junk toys/food/sweets

Anyone got any good ideas for party bags? The company do them but they are £5 each and with 12 kids its very pricey (they have things like boucy balls wooden instruments etc in them. They do get a balloon on a stick though included in the cost.

What can I do? AND cheap?? I want to spend £2 per bag ideally. (boys and girls are coming)

That sounds like a lovely venue and £5 a bag seems ridiculous to me.

What about a pack of pens and a colouring/puzzle book, or a skipping rope, bag of marbles, bubbles?

    Good luck!
  • I know £5 is expensive but they come in a gingham cloth bag so they are lovely, just costly...

Oh yes marbles are great idea, bubbles etc thanks, any idea where the cheapest places are? I live in the SW.

    Cheers xxx
