No. Read properly and you will find I said you can't be TOO houseproud if you have a dog. I didn't say you can't have a CLEAN house. You did say your dog shakes hairs and water everywhere when indoors and that he urinates on your wooden floors indoors too. I don't remember saying YOU had a dirty and/or mucky house, but for whatever reason you think it's fine to direct such abuse at me.

Well we obviously think differently then as I am extremely houseproud and have a dog. I dont have hairs anywhere as I clean them up.

I dont remember saying that you have a mucky house either, I just said that usually when someone says something like that it is an excuse for having a mucky house. If you dont have a mucky house there is no need to get all offended is there?

Read your posts back, then. You said I was obviously someone who had a mucky house. And I am offended.

How you can be offended by someone on the internet suggesting that your house might be mucky when they have never seen it, is beyond me.

Why not post a picture of your house and then I can tell you whether it is clean or not?

Hmmm, interesting direction (if a bit OT) this thread has taken.
We now have three Great Danes, and although I am forever cleaning up (cleaning slobber of ceilings etc!) and house does not smell etc, there is dog hair apparent, even if I hoovered thrice daily there would be dog hair present, as it is constantly falling off them and if they are indoor pets then there is nothing at all you can do to stop that they walk or move, or lie down, and hair comes off them, as it is always growing, shedding etc.
So, while i'm sure none of us are slovenlly (sp?) in our house cleaning duties, there will always be a little dog hair in our houses, especially houses with carpets as our is (we can't have all hard floors, would result in brokenor sprained legs IMHO)
I'd like to see a pic of the dog in the bag also, i'm sure they don't so them big enough for mine and i wouldn't consider using them if they did, but if it works for you OP.

    All IMHO

With regards to the disagreement on this thread, I would like to voice my own opinion...

I can understand both the arguments that are being made - that you can't be too houseproud when owning a dog, and that you can be - the reason I can understand this is because all our dogs are different, all our homes are different and all of us are different.

I like to keep my home clean (which is part of the reason I employer a cleaner) but I know full well that I can have the house spotless on a Saturday night only to wake up the next morning and find that three whippets have shed all over the place. It surprised me at first just how much whippets can shed! Of course it gets cleaned up but there are always those windows where the dogs can make a mess and the truth is they do make it tougher to clean the home, particularly in the type of weather that we have been having excessively recently. Muds and water stains don't present too much of an issue due to my dogs usually wearing jackets and shaking before we enter any part of the "living" area of the house but I have to admit, I have had a stained wall for a day longer than I would have liked in the conservatory.

From my perspective, I have to resign myself to the fact that there will be times that my house is not up to my usual standards. There are times when I just don't have the time to clean up all of the mess they create and have to leave it as it is for a day. This does not mean that my house is messy, dirty, untidy or anything else - just that because of the dogs the rate at which mess is created is accelerated and sometimes does not coincide conveniently with when I have chance to clean it up. Everything does get cleaned and the house on the whole is very clean and tidy, just the way I like it, but yes, there are off-days.

Thank you lisawood. Of course there will always be dog hair around even if you hoovered 24/7...that's the point I was making, that you simply cannot be too houseproud or you'd have a nervous breakdown. My house is as scrupulously clean as it can possibly be with two big dogs living here, and I'm always cleaning but as you say there will still be dog hair somewhere. For the poster to state that I obviously have a mucky house was out of order. I would never say that to anyone.

And I'm definitely thankful that my dogs don't urinate indoors as hers does.

Thanks Tropez. I'm glad others understand that no matter how much cleaning you do there will be more dog hair in the morning.

Zaksmum I think you need to step away from the computer.

It is perfectly OK for you to insult me, but not for me to 'insult' you?

My dog is 7 months old - unless your dogs were born with the ability to control their bladders I am willing to bet they peed on your floor once or twice?

Please try and calm yourself down. I have never seen your house and I have no idea how clean it is (and I really really dont care!), but we shall simply have to beg to differ on being houseproud. I am houseproud and I have a dog. You can do both.
  • I saw this http://www.amazinganimal.co.uk/pee-post-p-28507.html on the internet. A toilet Post that helps, with the aid of some dog training, to get your dog to toilet in one area. Apologies if someone has already mentioned it but it made it difficult when thread went slightly off subject (no criticism to anyone).
There will always be obstacles in your way. It's not IF you remove them but HOW!
