I had a cold water steriliser and really liked it as you fill with water and milton chuck the bottles in and they stay sterile for 24hrs (assuming you leave them in the water !). With steam or microwave ones the cleaned bottles are only ok for a few hours after you've opened it to take one out so you'd need to keep switching on the steriliser to make later bottles.

As long as you put them together within 3 hours they stay sterile till you open them again!

  • my mum keeps an oldfashioned steriliser and sterilising tablets at hers for my nephew, just boots own brand cold water steriliser and tablets, she has him overnight once a week and keeps a couple of bottles and dummies at hers so that his mum doesnt need to bring anything with her like that.

its small enough that it fits away in a cupboard without taking up loads of room and also wasnt that expensive to buy with it being an occasional use steriliser.

I used the microwave steriliser bottles from Mothercare, no need for any other equipment, just put an ounze of water in the lid, invert, and pop in the microwave. They had wide necks too, so much easier to fill without spills.

Very affectively sterilised, never had baby with upset tummy. versitile as you can do as many as you need, by adjusting the time accordingly.

  • I used the Phillips Avent Electric Steriliser and it worked well, only thing I didn't use it for long because my lo refuse to take bottle up till now at 7 months. So for me it was abit of a waste buying.

I had an electric with my first and a microwave ith my other 2! I would vote for the microwave sterliser every time! It stays in the microwave when not in use, is compact and easy to use and clean!

Once they're sterilised you assemble the bottles empty, they stay sterilised for 24 hours, no neet to re-strrilise at all.

I had steam for all mine, it was great, and I didn't need to worry about what I'd cooked in the microwave previously :D

I was never sure how to use the milton. Do you rinse it off afterwards (probably not as they wouldn't be sterile?) or use the bottles & teats with the smell still on them?
