Just to say that most of theese testers are way out and of no real use.0

Seattle, WA in the USA. Just pick an other server and [STRIKE]mess about [/STRIKE]test your speed with a server in the other side of the world.0

Sydney now. It really shows you that the Internet has improved over the years.0

Edit - Oops sorry, as spacker mentioned earlier (was lazy I only scanned quickly through the responses)
Best thing is to download from a trusted source. And not a quick test. The longer the better.
Something like:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/edgy/ubuntu-6.10-desktop-i386.iso
Watch what speeds you get as it downloads. I get roughly just over 500KB per second which translates into just over 4Mbps (240KB per second is roughly 2Mbps).
I'm ok with the "up to 8Mbps". As long as I'm getting faster than the 2Mbps connection I used to be on I'm happy. And I'm getting it for less. The lucky ones will get nearer 8Mbps although you'll need to be very close to the exchange, on a line with little contention. I'm Zone 2 London, so usually get between 2-6Mbps which keeps me happy for now."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

5 Meg is actually very respectable especially at 6pm. It can take 10 days for your line to settle but it's your sync speed that determines what download speed your going to get. See if you can find out what your sync speed is from your routers stats.
I sync at the full 8128 but have rarely seen over 6 Meg.This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!
