    Thanks ONW.

My eldest does help, when I struggle a bit, but it's just too painful some days to even try to wash it :(

There are also days when I can't even get to the bathroom, so don't get my hair washed.

Can you get to the sink? I had to get my dad to wash my hair over the sink several years ago because of the dressing I had on my back.

No, not when I'm really bad.

The sink is better than the bath, because it's higher up, although the shower would be better all round.

Hopefully the dry stuff will do the trick for now, until we move.

I wash mine whilst I am in the bath as bending over the bath to wash it means I have to get one of the kids to straighten me up again!

I use kitchen tongs (which eldest bashed into shape to allow it to hold better) to grip the shower head, to give some extra length so I don't have to raise my arms up too high...maybe an idea?
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Hi Pipkin71

My carers was my hair for me. They use two bowls, I sit with an empty one on my lap and there is a full one directly in front of me on a chair. All I have to do is lean slightly forward and they do the rest. Granted I often go a week or more due to not being well enough to manage it. I can't get to a bathroom or even stand at a sink for any length of time.

Just thought I'd mention it in the hope it will help someone.

I know that feeling, Sue :D

I have the bath lift in the bath and can't lean forward to the taps, to rinse in clean water.

Good idea with regards the kitchen tongs :)

Haven't tried that JJ7. It's something to think about.

    Does water end up everywhere?

When Im unable to get out of bed we have an inflatable thing that my head rests in and the water drains down a gunnel into a bucket, Im not describing it well but my neck lies in a relief and I lay with the large rectanglular inflatable "tank" with a dranage gunnel.

Towels are layed all around the bed to keep it dry and while its totally unnatural to have your hair washed its nice to have clean hair and it much less unatural as pooing in a slipper bed pan whilest being flat on your back :p

They put a bathmat on the floor, a towel on my lap and one around my shoulders so not too messy or wet.

the mention of tongs for holding the shower head made mr think of the fabby back brush MIL gave me when I shattered my shoulder: apart from having a lovely long bright pink net scrubby bit, the handle also seems extra long and is contoured so that I can reach pretty much all of me very easily.

Now, I haven't needed to try putting shampoo on it to do my hair, but would putting shampoo on a back brush / sponge-on-a-handle help, perhaps combined with the tongs for the shower head idea?

if not pipkin, maybe someone else?
