Yes, if it isn't washed, it looks dirty.
I have a shower installed over the bath but, because of balance issues, coupled with pain issues, cannot always get in it.
I often need help to have my hair washed and if it isn't washed, I feel worse, which I know is psychological, but that's how I feel
I know exactly how you feel, I'm the same and I'm sure most women are. No matter if my make-up and clothes look nice, I feel a mess if my hair isn't "perfect".
I do hope you find the answer - the no-rinse wet shampoo gets my vote !

one thing is that your hair adapts to what you do: if you wash it every day, it will need it every day. if you leave it 2 days, all the time, it will gradually 'learn' not to produce so much oil. at least that's the theory, and I've proved it ... btw you do need mild products or you are stripping all the oil out, so it produces more.
You can also use cornflour, sparingly, as a dry shampoo but I don't know how well that works.
There are threads on the Health and Beauty board about this.
Sadly Sue, despite the number of times I have not been able to have my hair washed, it hasn't 'learned' not to produce so much oil

Just wonder whether you have thought of using a bath bench?
I'm unable to get into/out of the bath and sit on this and use the bath shower extension to wash my hair (and myself). I have quite a simple one that can be fixed and removed very easily.
You can see what I mean here http://www.essentialaids.com/bath-boards-1425-0.html.
I've also used Batiste when I was more incapacitated and it works quite well.
I have a bath lift which gets me in and out of the bath but it doesn't help with the hair washing.
Thank you though, for your suggestion

Hope isn't too long before you move.

Thanks you might have solved a problem for me !! I didnt even know about things like this. I have had surgery on my neck and have permanent tubes and things coming out of , so i cant shower or bend over the sink to wash my hair. So these will be perfect for me. Up till now ive used Batiste but dont rate it much.0 -
btw I did get sent a lot of information from my local Disability Living Centre today, and there were quite a few bathing solutions so if you haven't checked lately it might be worth a look to see if there's anything that would make hair washing easier!Signature removed for peace of mind0

I have used Batiste dry shampoo years ago, and it works to a certain degree (but may leave you hair looking a little grey/powdery) but I didn't like the feeling it left on my scalp - it was sort of "clogged" IYKWIM!
I don't know if your disability allows, but I found a better way to "refresh" my hair was to either blow dry or get a styling brush/tongs/straighteners on it - but just in the root area. It not only dries, but gives root lift, so the hair looks and feels better, IMO. I also found long term it reduced the need for washing the hair every day, and I can go 3 days now - although by the 3rd day I do feel grotty!0 -
Yep, I don't know anybody that has used it but it seems like it would actually be cleaning your hair as opposed to masking the oils?

Actually, dry shampoo doesn't just mask the oils. The oil attaches itself to the powder and is removed when you brush it out. That's why the brushing out stage is so important.0 -
Pip, I have no experience of these but many members of the COPD forum I belong to swear by them.

Alternatively, couldn't one of your daughters help you wash your hair?0 -

Thanks ONW.
My eldest does help, when I struggle a bit, but it's just too painful some days to even try to wash it
There are also days when I can't even get to the bathroom, so don't get my hair washed.
Psychologically, those days make me feel worse, particularly if we are having visitors. I know they are coming to help, and don't care what I look like, but I still feel unclean
:o
Anyway, have ordered some stuff online and keeping my fingers crossed that it will help
Thanks everyone
