I prefer to think of Buy It Now as Pay for It Now, both as buyer and seller. I don't order my Tesco groceries and think I'll pay later when I've got some more time, I need them sent to me asap.

Agree with others....yes the buyer was OTT, but if you had enough time to press a button for BIN, you've equally got the time to send payment. Perhaps the seller chose the BIN option in order to quickly get some funds into their Paypal account rather than sit an auction out.

There's no point into gettting into a "tit for tat" situation, life's too short.
Actually that doesn't hold water. You don't get charged for supermarket orders until the day they are delivered; this makes sure that any substitutions they have to make on the day are accurately charged to your card.

Watchdog did one of their shock! horror! articles on it a while ago (mostly to do with special offers changing from day to day and customers finding they hadn't been given the discounts they thought they might have been) but in reality it's clearly stated on the website that this happens.

Also, getting money quickly into your Paypal account is silly - you can have a BIN on for thirty days, so it really isn't any quicker sometimes than an auction, plus your buyer still has four days to pay and sometimes you just have to factor that in. Relying on eBay selling for quick cash in an emergency is not a good idea.

I agree with majority opinion in this thread but accept there might be times when you are holding off paying for something until other items finish. 24 hours is too soon to be ringing someone up though, which might have made Harvey decide to play unfair in this case.

Quite often being wilfully obtuse isn't the answer, though. I wouldn't be leaving this guy good stars for comms, but I wouldn't leave him sitting waiting for his money.

I don't understand why people do this. As a buyer I always pay immediately and as a seller I expect payment, of a buy it now item, straight away. It takes less than a minute to pay by Paypal so how could you not have had time.

I sometimes BIN but pay later. It's because I am allowed to use ebay during my lunch break at work, but not paypal so I pay when I get home. I haven't had any complaints yet.

I honestly don't have an issue with people who are alittle tardy with payment. If I want immediate payment on a BIN then I use 'immediate payment' if I am happy to wait I don't bother.

    I'm laid back-me.

First of all I told him that I have a few days to pay. Secoindly I told him to !!!!!! off and I'll now pay when I'm ready.

So I waited for him to open a Non Paying thingy and left it to the last day to pay for the item.

I know people are hard up just after Christmas but he took the p!ss...!

What is your Ebay user ID? I want to add you to my blocked list. Don't want people like you bidding on my auctions.

Can't say I've done this, but I wouldn't rule it out, and what would be so wrong:

I get paid on 3rd last working day of the month, 3 days before that I'm browsing ebay, and I spot a bargain buy it now, which mightn't hang around for long, so buy it then, thinking, "well I'll pay in 3 days time, no harm done".

You can be damn sure though if a day later I get the same hassle as OP, the seller is going to get a neg and low stars.

i think you and the seller are both a couple of idiots to be honest...

why buy but not pay ? it takes seconds to complete payment so i don't buy your "i didn't have time" nonsense.

    but the seller....

he knows how to request a buyers details but doesn't know how to click the box which says "require immediate payment when buyer uses buy it now" during the listing process?

an prime example of when dumb meets dumber this one.....

And on the other isde of the coin, I have just had a buyer contact me on an item I import from US, the last item, some £40, she wants it, but cannot pay for a week. I use BIN immediate payment. However she has emailed and asked, so I will oblige. It is give and take.

So you would go to a shop, tell them what you want and expect them to give you 3 days to come back and pay, just because you haven't got the money to pay for it now?

If the shop's rules were that I had 7 days to pay, then yes.
