Seller requested my details after 24 hours and demanded payment...

A couple of weeks ago I bought an item for £30 plus postage. Clicked the BIN and thought I'll pay later when I get more time, as I was running late enough as it was.
The follwoing day I recieved an email from eBay saying my user details had been requested and this was followed by a phone call from the seller demanding payment for the item.
First of all I told him that I have a few days to pay. Secoindly I told him to !!!!!! off and I'll now pay when I'm ready.
So I waited for him to open a Non Paying thingy and left it to the last day to pay for the item.
I know people are hard up just after Christmas but he took the p!ss...!

I don't understand why people do this. As a buyer I always pay immediately and as a seller I expect payment, of a buy it now item, straight away. It takes less than a minute to pay by Paypal so how could you not have had time. Auctions are different as people aren't always around when the auction ends.0

eBay's Terms give the buyer 4 days (I think) to pay, so I'm afraid that you expectations are not built on anything concrete.cutandshut wrote: »as a seller I expect payment, of a buy it now item, straight away.
There may be many reasons why a buyer doesn't pay straight away (cashflow, waiting for other auctions to end so that they can pay for them all at one time, etc).Philip0 -
Quite frankly I think you took the p!ss, you had time to click BIN, but not 30secs to complete payment....:j30/7/10:j

I think it was a bit much to make the seller wait until they'd opened a case against you, it's not unreasonable to expect prompt payment of a BIN.
Generally I always pay immediately, unless I happen to be awaiting for the same sellers auctions to finish, or perhaps I'm browsing their shop and get interrupted, in which case I may have to pay later. I don't think I've ever left it long enough to warrant a request for payment.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
There needs to be some common sense, a compromise between sellers who want payment NOW, and buyers who pay when they feel like it... sometimes never.
Phoning somone to chase payment after 24hrs is a bit OTT, I don't condone that at all (I give at least 4 days, 5 to buyers with an exceptionally good history).
At the same time if you buy from any place other than ebay, you have to pay straight away. Ebay should have the same system, it's a nightmare to have so many people not paying, holding items you could be selling to someone else, and costing you the listing fee!0 -
I am confused. If a seller does not want to wait then they can select this option on their listing.

EDIT: This option is only available to business sellers in good standing.
I never had a problem waiting before sending payment on BIN items.0 -
What a prize t!t , Use BIN then feel it's ok to pay when you feel like?! Whilst i don't condone the sellers actions it seems the OP seriously took the mickey waiting till the last minute to pay - Just being antagonistic in my opinion, If you were 'too busy' to take the 20-30 seconds to pay why not wait till you have more time before buying? :mad:0

Surely the clue is in the name 'buy it Now'Moving on up

I prefer to think of Buy It Now as Pay for It Now, both as buyer and seller. I don't order my Tesco groceries and think I'll pay later when I've got some more time, I need them sent to me asap.
Agree with others....yes the buyer was OTT, but if you had enough time to press a button for BIN, you've equally got the time to send payment. Perhaps the seller chose the BIN option in order to quickly get some funds into their Paypal account rather than sit an auction out.
There's no point into gettting into a "tit for tat" situation, life's too short.Saving money right, left and centre0 -

It's also not suitable for items where mulitple purchases are likely, as it would discourage buyers from purchasing more stuff from you.
I've started using the immediate payment option on some items, but only a small minority, because I have many multiple purchases that may not happen if I request payment now.0
