Best mattress..

My husband and I wrung our hands over buying a new mattress because we're naturally frugal and it just seemed so wrong to buy an expensive new bed. But, we had been sleeping on an uncomfortable (cheap) double mattress. I'm pregnant and comfort means more and more. Neither of us are small people. When the baby comes, I want him to be able to sleep next to me for nursing at night.... so, we got a SUPERKING Silent Night latex. We looooove it! I don't know if that's what is good for YOU... I'm just saying that life is too short to spend 1/3 of it in pain.:beer:0

I had the most horrific back pain before I changed my matress.. also hip and knee and ankle... I know... i'm falling apart - or should I say was!
You have to go for a foam matress - they are absolute life savers!
When ours arrived it was airpacked and looked like it would not fit a cot let alone a double bed.. give it 6 hours in the open air and it expands to the usual size..
Also, for the first week I thought I would never get used to it - very hard and smelt like varnish (?) - but once it has taken on board your shape you will never want to leave it at home!!
I bought mine from a Ebay and it was as cheap as chips - I have just bought my Dad one too - not sure if I can give the details on here so I will just leave the item number of mine 260046890247 ... service from this guy is superb - arrived within 24 hours of ordering..
BE WARNED though - you will never go on holiday again... Stayed in a hotel last week and couldnt straighten up for 45minutes!!
GOOD LUCK!!
are these memory mattress's any good if you sleep in different positions and move at night?0 -
You dont seem to move as much with memory foam mattresses. In fact I think you can wake up quite achey as you have slept in the same position for too long.0

Have anyone use this website? If so, what is the service and quality like?
Thank you.0 -
Buying a mattress off the internet that you haven't tried out - bad idea!0

have bought a divan bed with a memory foam layer and typical springs below.
cost £400 for a double. (can find similar ones in argos) and it is brilliant!!
Never had back problems until i had a second hand bed when i moved into my first flat. I was in absolute agony.
Therefore had to invest in a new bed or not be able to drive (i comute 80 miles a day) it was that bad.
Got the bed slept in it first night and wow!! you will never need to stretch again in the morning. It also keeps your body temeperature constant.
I have never had a moan from my back again (had it six months now).
he other advantage is that i have eczema and it became really bad with th old bed. Since having the new bed (as it is hypo alergy) it has completly cleared up!.
I would highly recommend a mattress with a layer of the latex/memory foam.
£400 may be a lot to you but you may find that you will gain alot more in you day to day life from it!!0 -

I have. I bought a hugely expensive memory foam mattress and it was by far the most comfortable I have ever slept on. I was told in the shop that it should not be turned so it wasn't but after about six months it developed mould on the underside, presumably from soaking up tiny amounts of sweat each night and not being able to dry out. It may not have happened if my bed had widely spaced slats, but I have had no problem with the conventional pocket spring mattress I replaced it with, so who knows?0 -

There is a very real danger of suffocation for the baby. I know of someone it happened to - a fellow health care professional who should have known better. When you are an exhausted new parent it's so easy to fall back asleep when you are nursing your baby in bed.
Life is too short to sleep on an uncomfortable mattress, but it's definitely too short to spend grieving, as my poor colleague will.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -

Actually, there are studies that show that SIDS and other problems are LESS common with cosleeping. In cultures that cosleep, they aren't even issues. Mothers don't smother their babies - older siblings, non-related adults, and adults under the influence of drugs or alcohol, as well as those who are wildly obese, can sometimes smother a child. Care has to be taken that the edges of the bed are safe. Sofas are not safe. You want the baby on the outside edge, rather than against the wall (better to fall out of bed than to get trapped between the mattress and wall) and beds that have platforms around the sides of the mattresses aren't safe.
Of course you fall asleep while nursing your baby. That's the point of cosleeping. Everybody gets a better night's rest because you don't have to even really wake up. The baby stirs ever-so-slightly and the mom senses this without fully waking and they can nurse without actually coming fully awake.
It's perfectly natural and many pediatricians recommend it.:beer:0 -

I totally agree. I ordered one from argos to replace one that the springs had broken and were poking out. I did not want to get the same brand that I had before and the new one was half price (£200) on special offer, so I though it would be good. It is disappointing, it flexes too much and transfers movement from one side to the other.0
