Well done to those who have got a job, really really pleased for you both

I've done a dummy run to my interview on Monday, I found it easy enough. Its abit further than I used to go, at about 40 mins during the middle of the day. But its an easy drive, so not to bad. Its through town but start time is early at 8.30 so I won't get stuck in traffic at that time. Traffic here dosn't build up until about that time in town and I'll be long gone by then.

Its right on the route to the gym I used to go too as well, but chose to give up when I was made redundant, can't wait to get back there. :j

Yes I know I'm counting my chickens and all that, but its hard not too.

I promise to really really try my best and will spend most of the weekend reading the website. Its good as I already know what they do. :)

Has anyone else found job searching harder since jobcentre.com no longer exists and it's done through direct.gov? Out of interest I just typed in nursery nurse and put in up to 30 miles from my postcode (usually I just type in my postcode and select all jobs) and suddenly 3 jobs have appeared from over a week ago that have never come up before!!! Emailed them so hopefully I hear something but HOW ANNOYING! I much preferred the old site.

I agree. I think the whole thing is worse since they made it Job Centre Plus... plus what? More stress?

I too have noticed that jobs appear with dates from a few weeks ago that I'm sure weren't there before... very odd.

Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.

Definitel;y more stress. One of them was only posted on the 7th, it's supposed to search back through the last 14 days but clearly doesn't. Still at least it's added another 3 possibilities to my evergrowing list :rotfl:

Oh I'll be interested to hear what they have to say. This job that I'm gabbling on about was found for me at one of those meetings where they see what they can do for you  Apparently from the Job Centre website, well I hadn't seen the thing, and I can assure you I've looked. :D

I can't make the search from Leicester for example, even though I've changed it. It seems to search 15miles from the Job Centre address. This job that was found for me isn't 15 miles away but it didn't come up in my searches.

Also (I'm on a roll here :D ) it defaults to Job Title, why would you want it to default to Job Title. Surly Date Posted would be better. I can understand you'ed want Job Title if your a Teacher, say, but since these only two new jobs posted today, and the most I've seen is about 8 these no need to have that as an heading anyway.

    :D

Good Luck!!! It is very hard not to get your hopes your right. I had an interview last Friday with 4 other people. From talking to them I sounded like I had the most experience but I didn't get the job so felt really deflated. It may not have gone to one of the other 4 as they interviewed a further 5 that afternoon but it was hard not to get my hopes up. I just look at it as it was obviously not meant to be. :)

It is ridiculous isn't it! Mine searches within 15 miles as well by default, yet it never picks up Newport in Shropshire which is literally 5 mins drive away from me, nor does it pick up Shifnal which is about 15 mins drive. I have to put those places in as separate searches and clearly it STILL doesn't pick up every job as one of these new three I've found is in Shifnal. I think they just like to make more work for us trying to find work

absolutely, and I find that if I type durham in the job search area (it sets the default postcode to the jobcentre) I get one set of jobs come up but if I type my actual post code in (which is only a few miles from durham) it comes up with a completely different set of jobs!

It just a pity most of them I can't do or are 0 hour contracts :(
  • I'm just glad it's not only me having problems. They don't help when the system is so confusing to use as that's where the majority of jobs get advertised. Employers could be missing out on potential candidates as well as were not seeing the advertisements. But I get 2 sets of jobs as well depending what I search.

    Good afternoon all.

    TFI Friday!

It's great to see more success stories on here :j

I'm just back from my interview. This was for the job at the office at the place my mum works, I didn't have any clue about the job til I got there. The guy interviewing was lovely, but the way he described the job  I was completely losing the will to live. I had no idea what he was on about whatsoever. It is to do with debt recovery and he is a lawyer so whether it was just him making it sound more difficult than it is I dunno, he did say at the end he thought I could do it. He's interviewing a few others with law degrees next week. I don't even know whether I would take it if I was offered. I am desperate to work, and have no problem with applying for things I wouldn't normally consider, but actually taking on a job I know I couldn't do. That just sounds a bit stupid.
  • Hello all,
I'm hoping this is sort of related but does anyone know where I can get free advice on my CV from?
