I found out I had a job last Tuesday via telephone and I told the job centre on Friday and put my last claim day as the Sunday and then started Monday. But I would wait until you have it on paper and then sign off as anything could happen before pen goes to paper.0

Hello folks, does anyone have any experience of getting a verbal job offer and then just waiting for written confirmation and a start date and telling the job center? Its only going to be 6 to 8 hours a week to start but there will be more hours later in the year. Im not sure if I should say that ive had a verbal at my next sign on day or wait till ive got something on paper.
Given the state of the market and the whimsical way in which some employers treat prospective staff I'd wait for it in writing. Tell the JobCentre you have been for the interview and waiting for the result. Verbal offers can evaporate.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thanks
Im not signing off tho, its only a few hours to start with and as much as ive cut back I can't live on £37 a week yet.

Is this how it is now? We spend our time and money attending interviews only to never hear back unless we pry it out of them? What a damn cheek. So annoyed.
its how its been for a few years and just how it is, it is annoying yes but you just plough on.0 -
My temporary admin job just ended; had hoped they'd keep me on but with six desks in a tiny office and then me coming along, it was very cramped. Now I'm back to square one
the only positive is that on the last 2 days I was there (yesterday and thursday) I kept getting all these missed calls from an unknown number until I rang them back last night and it turned out to be a local hotel asking me in for an interview this monday for either reception work or waitressing (I literally can't remember, it was 6 weeks ago I applied!). That put me in a good mood
When I say local, I mean I could walk there in less than 5 mins, which would be handy for all those early morning/late night shifts.
How is everybody elses job search coming along?0 -

Thats quite lucky for you and the fact its close to home, my current job is about 5 miles away/ 5/10 minute drive plus with starting at 6 its handy as less traffic around(depending on traffic) . Its a god send living so close and its actually quite nice after having spent 2 years spending about 40 minutes in the car in rush hour traffic.0 -
Don't think I got the hotel job, it's now Friday night and they interviewed me on Monday :P I think they saw right through me when I said I'd be looking at it as a permanent job (they are bound to have hired a 16/17 year old who's more likely to stay on!). Got an interview through an agency for a Marketing Assistant next monday, it's at a pharmaceutical company which I'm hoping will be in my favour as my degree is in life sciences and it sounds really exciting
It's me against one other person, so I'm just hoping they aren't some 1st Honours degree from Oxbridge :P

The Oxbridge 1st will be over qualified and they will be terrified that they will grab the experience and leave at the earliest opportunity. Think positive~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Not been on here in a while, just thought I would give an update. I had an interview the other week for a learning disabilities support worker position. I felt like the interview went really well and was offered the job the next day. The only problem with this job is that its a zero-hours contract, so effectively I could still be out of work. I've been waiting for them to check my references and do a CRB check for two weeks now and I've just tried to track my CRB form and they haven't even sent it off yet.
Yesterday I was phoned up and offered an interview for a mental health support worker job. This is much more what I wanted to do as I want to pursue a career in the mental health field. Anyway, had the interview this morning and it was awful. I completely froze up and gave really terrible answers. I couldn't even answer some of the questions due to having absolutely no experience what so ever. Two hours after the interview they phoned me up to offer me the job! To say I was surprised is an understatement. I reckon they only had one or two other people to interview or something because I honestly wouldn't have hired me and it seems strange they called me back so quickly. Someone in admin cocked up because they was supposed to send letters inviting people for interviews last week but they didn't and they only realised yesterday so I think they probably weren't able to get hold of a lot of people and others probably weren't available at such short notice- not that I'm complaining. I've been out of work for 3 and half years due to ill health so I am absolutely over the moon. Hopefully my benefit claiming days are over for good.Knock me down I'll get right back up again, I'll come back stronger than a powered up Pac-Man0 -
