  • I start my first day tomorrow in store. I am SO, SO nervous. I have just got back off a 4 day training trip away. They are the 'kitchen experts' so I have to learn loads. I took a test and the results came in the post today, I got 50/56 which is good but I'm really worried they will throw me straight in and a customer wont be satisfied with my knowledge. I have a big folder of work to complete over the next 6 months. Reallyw asn't expecting this kind of dedication but I'm gunna grab it by the horns and dive in. Been waiting 2 years for an interview and finally got a job in my first one but urghh how do you beat first day nerves?

I know what you mean. Too many managers underestimate how powerful a simple 'thank you' can be. I'm really pleased you're getting some recognition for your efforts and your manager has already picked up that you've got a good work ethic! :D

exactly, it doesn't take much effort to say thankyou does it, the only time we were spoken to was when we made a $*@* up. In the 2 years i was there we only saw the owner when he was showing visitors(possible new contracts) round, any other decent business owner would commuinicate to his staff they were doing well.

I start tomorrow but I'm not really nervous. I did the job 3 years ago and as far as I can tell most of the people I worked with are still there and the job hasn't changed! Plus I can remember a lot of the stuff there is just a few gaps. I know the job is temporary but hoping it lasts until christmas as determined to pass my driving test before March next year. I should also hopefully be starting an admin course in a few weeks and will keep looking for permanent jobs :)
  • My first day went great I took 4 leads which = 4 lots of commission. Apparently this is impressive for a first day, especially a Sunday.
  • I started today, already back in the swing of the job and all my old friends are still there and some new ones as well. Is actually not bad to be back, really enjoying it. I get 2 breaks and get to finish before it gets dark, lovely!
  • Glad it's going well In the red and EndlessStruggle. I've been in my new job for two weeks now and enjoying it hugely.

Good luck to everyone that's still looking.
    Whatever
  • Have had a pretty depressing week.

Last week had an interview - thought it went really well. Was told I'd hear back at the end of the week/beginning of this week. Of course, not one phone call or email. So I e-mailed them yesterday and within an hour they sent through a generic email "unfortunately this vacancy has already been filled and we wish you luck on your job search". Oh well thank you for letting me know sooner!!

Is this how it is now? We spend our time and money attending interviews only to never hear back unless we pry it out of them? What a damn cheek. So annoyed.

Hello folks, does anyone have any experience of getting a verbal job offer and then just waiting for written confirmation and a start date and telling the job center? Its only going to be 6 to 8 hours a week to start but there will be more hours later in the year. Im not sure if I should say that ive had a verbal at my next sign on day or wait till ive got something on paper.

Unfortunately it's nothing new as others will confirm. Companies can be disorganised or the staff overstretched. Whatever the reason it's simply bad manners and bad business. Now if they advertise you won't feel so inclined to apply which for them is ok in the bad times but in the good times they will get the backlash. The attitude to take is one of a narrow escape. Did you want to work for such a company? I doubt it.
