Ah yes, those not in the jobs market, who haven't been for years and who think they can offer all sorts of helpful advice to get you back into work. Annoying but you have to be polite.

The best ones I get are the "can't you just take anything for now to get working?', "have you tried local supermarkets?" etc etc.

If it was that simple we wouldn't all be unemployed would we!? I do think they think I'm making excuses when I say they won't even look at someone like me, a professional who will clearly take the first thing that comes along that is actually in my field of experience with pay commensurate with experience. They have no need to take me on as a potentially unstable employee when they have so many others to choose from.

I agree. I've applied for all kinds of jobs that are below my usual skill/salary level. Mostly I'm rejected, but I've had a couple of interviews where they've said you're overqualified and we're afraid you'll leave. Funny that no matter how hard you try to reassure them you'd like the job and you want it, they don't believe you ;) I think in those cases, they're mandated to interview X number of people for the position, so they call in someone overqualified that they can just write off.

They have a generic email they send to everyone I think... I've been rejected for having no experience in the areas required, though I had 3 years of experience in the area...

Last year I applied for a p/t job in Primark and then got a rejection e-mail saying I had been unsuccessful as I didn't have enough experience, even though I have several years of retail experience.

A couple of months later I got another e-mail saying my application had been successful and inviting me to an interview!

I had a mixed day yesterday. First of all I found out that the head gasket had gone on my car for the second time in less than 2 years  but later on I found out that I've got a few weeks work doing some admin at a school. The hourly rate is awful and it's not going to cover my bills but it is a lot better than the measly £67 the government deign to give me each week. I'm looking forward to actually working again too.

Good luck everyone. Thursday's usually a good day for job ads.

The annoying remarks come from those uneducated in the job market today. I now have a game where I point out politely the flaws in their arguments and provide my own evidence to support my argument. So far it has worked every time, has earnt me respect amongst my family, plus it boosts my assertiveness and self confidence. It also amuses me to keep a daily count of these remarks. No annoying remarks today so far today so I am either doing well or my tactics are working. Just wish people would not make them in the first place though, most of us seem to have highs and lows and the comments do not help when you are on a downer

    Morning all

I was full of hope yesterday, job day usually means loads to apply for but there was not a single thing.

I am at the job centre today and have found a measly ten jobs to apply for since my last visit :( It's been really quiet around here lately.

I'm counting down the days til my temporary job starts, I actually can't wait :o and I am determined I am never signing on again once it finishes. I'm going to save my wages and live off them if I haven't found work by time it finishes.

Oh, and less than a week til Take That now :j:j

Me too, for such a long time. You have time to work on yourself, what you really want. Go for what you really want. Everything else, is, everything else.

I love my new job, I always believed that this would happen, but I had to believe. That took a year.

This isn't some soppy employ me lark, this some soppy get in there lark.

Really pleased for you November5th. Could you share some tips on why your interview turned out to be successful?

I have an opportunity (not a job one) to move back to London, something I was planning on doing longer term anyway. I don't even need any move in costs (an old friend is looking for a flatmate and he's already paid all the move in costs and is happy to forego them until I'm working).

Just one minor flaw, I don't have the £300 or so to hire a van and pay the petrol! (I've looked at exactly how much it will cost). Most I can raise is probably £200 and that would be a stretch.

So today I am mostly frustrated and sick of the power having no money wields over me and my life choices.

Has anyone used any or part of the letter templates for job cover letters on word 2007?

Very quiet on the job front today, I can't find anything to apply for, on a plus note though I now have the cleanest kitchen in the world!

I don't use any templates I find that it is better if I tailor the cover letter to the specific job.
