they have stopped weekly signings now. I was supposed to be on them in March, I did 2 weekly signings then the advisor told me they had stopped as they don't make a difference.

That's really good news for those who haven't yet got to the point of weekly signings doom! :rotfl:

PS it didn't do me any good!

Oh thank the sweet baby Jebus! I do have my 13 week review thingy at my next signing though, apparently they sent a letter but I haven't got it.

My advisor told me though that some girl had gone for an interview and the bloke turned round and said to her he wasn't interested in unemployed people! He was advertising through the Jobcentre so she's made a complaint.

See, that's the sort of attitudes we're up against!

I'm at a double disadvantage then. No only am I unemployed I used to work in the public sector! I read some time ago that nearly 50% of private sector employers had said they wouldn't employ someone from the public sector.

Its all going my way isn't it?

My credit card bill brought me back to reality, wondering how we will manage when the redundancy money eventually runs out. Had a bag of stuff to drop off at the closest charity shop, cycled there (10 mile round trip) rather than get in the car to save petrol.

Keep sending out cvs for vacancies using my primary skills and getting no responses. Have tweaked and tweaked conforming to the latest cv fashion yet not a sniff from the recruiters. I will be getting some outplacement help so maybe they can advise. I do think though it is the current tough market rather than my cv

Having a short interview about setting up my own business (or rather taking over an existing business) tomorrow after answering an article in free paper. It is using my secondary skills but is an area that I have wanted to do for years and I have done some research and yes it is reputable. I hope it is not getting my hopes up too much. It won't cover all the current bills but the redundancy can make up any shortfall plus can adjust my lifestyle (done that before when the mortage rates went astronomical in the late 80s).

Really loving the time off. I was at my last job for over 20 years and the freedom of not being stuck in an office plus being in control of how much job seeking work I do in a day is liberating. I do more productive hours at this laptop seeking work than I did stuck in the office. All this suggests that if (and its a big if) the business opportunity is viable, I should go for it.

    Hi all,
I seem to be going in fits and starts for job apps at the moment, it's either all or nothing, mainly nothing.

7 weeks to go before I'm redundant and still thinking about appealling on grounds that I don't think I've been treat fairly.

Next news is that after not getting a job I was interviewed for at my current role, more/new/other jobs have since been interviewed for and filled - one of which is one of my good friends who has been under redundancy notice since Christmas, so on one had I am happy for her but on the other, where I work I wouldn't wish on anyone and I had to give her the full picture before she starts so she doesn't walk in with rose tinted glasses and wonder why her blood pressure goes up within a week. I'm not sure half the staff will have a job soon if at all the way our funding areas are being slashed. I have had one interview in 2 months, since I started looking.

Something has got to give soon, the nation is going completely mad. Food prices up, petrol up, jobs down to the point of taking the mickey from genuine people who want to work . A town's police fining people for swearing in public, people being arrested to steal food from rubbish bins... do I need to say anymore?

My job search brings up nothing new today, no word from the agency I sent my CV to. On the plus side at my voluntary role I am gonna learn a few other peoples jobs to cover them when they aren't in so more for the CV :D

Nope. I just phoned them and asked for the person dealing with recruitment because I wanted to make a complaint (she wasn't there, again) so I doubt I'll get any interview now but I'm actually a bit upset by it. No doubt I'm being unreasonable and just having a bad day but I just don't think that's on. I've sat here all day waiting for no reason.

oh Drea I'm sorry to hear that. I think that it's quite out of order the way they have treated you today. The least they could have done is let you know whether or not they wanted to see you today. Well it's their loss!

Drea you aren't being the least bit unreasonable. You've waited around for much of the day expecting them to contact you. If nothing else it's simply ill mannered to behave like that and shows a complete lack of respect. You have a good rage about it then forget it and get on with your jobhunting.
    Whatever
