Some employers must think we are stupid enough to buy this rubbish.
This morning saw a bank job advertised on-line which I applied for (Given a First Class Degree in Economics you might have thought I would have had a chance?) and within 30 minutes had a reply telling me that after 'careful consideration.....'
I mean come on.
yep i understand your feeling, its a right kick in the gonads when they reply with 'careful consideration.....'
i do wonder if the applications are read by a human being as ive been rejected for jobs despite having experience, ive been beginning to think whether its the fact i have 5 points for speeding which i do declare
i need some kind of punch bag as a stress reliever0 -
Sorry to be a downer. I'm pretty much defeated by it all, been unemployed nearly 9 months, a few interviews here and there. Haven't had an interview in about 3 months. Pretty much feel like I'm never going to be employed again. I find about 1-3 jobs a week I can apply for if I'm lucky. The only thing that keeps me in any kind of routine and out of depression is my voluntary work, as soon as I get in there I don't feel so bad at all. The Job Centre keeps trying to get me to do this and do that but all I want to do is what I am doing and is more beneficial to my employment. If I could afford to sign off I really would!0

Take them off! Let them fall in love with you first before declaring what may for some jobs be completely irrelevant.
It's a black point to be used against you - "if they've got speeding points, how else have they broken the law "- not saying you have, but we all know any excuse is used to thin down the pile.Make £2025 in 2025

Hi, hope that you don't mind me joining the thread, despite my username I'm male, I'm not working at the moment-I'm in Stevenage-haven't worked since xmas when I worked as a casual at Royal Mail I enjoyed that sorting indoors, I was a postman for 9 years from late 80s to 90s, I'm begiining to wonder if I'll get anything, I'm currently doing a ITQ Level 3( ECDL Extra) after just passing level 2 but I do wonder what's the point when I go online and apply for jobs and see that 400+ people are going for the same job and even thoughh people mean well when they say ooh so and so are looking for people, they don't really understand how many other people are looking for work and alot of the time the jobs that they see advertised are not in this area anyway.0

They have a generic email they send to everyone I think... I've been rejected for having no experience in the areas required, though I had 3 years of experience in the area...
Personally, if I get a rejection after anything less than 48hrs, I figure the job must have been filled. Whatever keeps you sane!
Also been turned down because I live far away from where I'm applying to and they don't think I'm committed to relocating. Most annoying excuse ever!0 -

I also feel your pain. I've just finished uni and I've been applying to lots of jobs, one of which had 16000+ applicants (and yes, that's the right number of 0's) for about 90 jobs. Keep at it though! I was feeling seriously down and depressed, I've been applying for jobs since October and didn't hear very much at all until suddenly, last week, in one day I got 2 phone interviews and I was also head hunted! The next day, I was also invited for yet another interview.
I've now had my 2 phone interviews which have progressed to face-to-face stage (both next week) and I have another 2 interviews later in the month.
Keep positive - it can turn completely around in 1 day! (just try to keep your feet on the floor and remember to keep applying for back up plans!)0 -

Ah yes, those not in the jobs market, who haven't been for years and who think they can offer all sorts of helpful advice to get you back into work. Annoying but you have to be polite.
The best ones I get are the "can't you just take anything for now to get working?', "have you tried local supermarkets?" etc etc.
If it was that simple we wouldn't all be unemployed would we!? I do think they think I'm making excuses when I say they won't even look at someone like me, a professional who will clearly take the first thing that comes along that is actually in my field of experience with pay commensurate with experience. They have no need to take me on as a potentially unstable employee when they have so many others to choose from.0 -

Me too, for such a long time. You have time to work on yourself, what you really want. Go for what you really want. Everything else, is, everything else.
I love my new job, I always believed that this would happen, but I had to believe. That took a year.
This isn't some soppy employ me lark, this some soppy get in there lark.0 -

I had a employer call me for a interview tomorrow after number of missed calls. I was suppose to have receive a confirmation interview email but I have not receive it and the interview is in the early afternoon tomorrow.
I have no idea who my interview is with and no address details so do I call the employer tomorrow to confirm the interview or just look up the company address details myself.
The company does not even seem professional because the personnel lady did not even know that I send my CV through a jobsite and had to take my email address again. It is also hard to get through to the personnel when you call them and you just have to leave a message on the machine. There is a main number but when you call it they just say that personnel will call back.
I do not want to waste my time going if there is no interview instead of using my time to job search.0
