The sun is shining today, immediately puts me in a good mood. O/h will be late for work because he slept in whilst I am ready for my daily job search:rotfl:

Been looking at the "ask a manager" website over the weekend, and the wikepedia interview. There are some horror stories out there on nightmare bosses/jobs/job interviews. Also love some of the comments, americans are great when they are cynical!

Also made note in the newspapers of the stupid things so called clever people say, e.g., Alan Bennett likening the library closures to child abuse. Decided not to be so sensitive in future when people make negative remarks about job seekers. For fun though I will be starting a count of negative remarks

Hey ho, will work on my situational and competancy based questions this morning as well as revising on my given profession. I liken my professional knowledge to my knowledge of a second language. Having spent many years abroad I am fluent and could speak no problem, but ask me to conjugate a complex verb in any language and I would be unable to reply

Anyway all the best, I feel a little shamed in that most of you seem to be having more interviews than me. Have applied for a couple over the weekend which I will be chasing up this morning

Well, today is interview number 3 in my job search. At a uni, decent money and well, I'm desperate so I hope I get it! They are probably interviewing quite a lot of people so super charm offensive face on.

To give some people hope too, I applied for this job 2 months ago and had given up on it, I wasn't even sure who the email was from when I first saw it in my inbox as I had totally forgotten about applying :)

Good luck to everyone else today.

Job searching is so much harder when the kids are off for half term!

I'll second that. I don't even have children but my sister rang me in a panic this morning saying that her childminder had been called away on an emergency and being as I don't have anything to do (her words not mine) could I look after her two children so I am being invaded by a 5 year old and an 8 month old in five minutes (eeek). At least she works part-time and will be coming to pick them up at 3pm.

Good luck to everyone with interviews this week and also to those without (something will come along soon is what I keep being told).
  • I have removed all traces of myself from the internet. I can't believe I hadn't seen it before. I think last time I searched I didn't use my full name and this time I did. Silly me, hoping it will disappear or at least they can't see my page anymore yay.
I don't mean to be a grouch but there is the Wayback Machine where old pages are archived, this is the only one I know of but doubtless there are others out there. Granted, your average Joe won't know where to look but deleting current pages does not necessarily guarantee oblivion. ;)

ETA: Good luck for today November, hope your first day back at work is fab!
    Whatever

Well another application sent off into the abyss that is job application land.

Must have sent a dozen in the past fortnight and have heard nothing from any of them...so frustrating!!!

I am aware of the Wayback Machine too, but you have to know what you're digging for and it doesn't actually archive all of the internet. You just have to hope for the best!:)

I'm really nervous about my first day tomorrow! Really hope November's day is going well. :) I've decided that the butterflies in the pit of my stomach are better than the sinking feeling of bills coming in and no money in the pipeline to cover them. Am very lucky to be in the position where my stomach is full of butterflies - must remember that!:)

What jobsites are using because I have found Total Jobs to be very good and have manage to secure jobs and interviews through them.

I am also looking for a new job and aim to send at least five applications a day.

Bear in mind when you register with an agency, they will want you to come in and see them, plus you may get offered jobs at fairly short notice.

For office work, they'll probably get you to do a very basic computing test and typing test, but if you've been through uni, chances are you can cope with Microsoft Word and turning a computer on and off. ;)

I'm afraid I don't know of any specific agencies in Dundee that are any cop, but maybe someone else will. Did a quick search and couldn't spot any good sounding independents, but it looks like you've got some of the well known chains to choose from, like Hay's, Brook Street, Adecco and Pertemps, as well as Office Angels.

Once you register with a temping agency, you need to call them every other day until they find you work. It sounds rude, pestering them all the time, but it's how temping works. You need to be persistent.

Agencies are a waste of time it best to just apply directly to the employer.

I've been for my interview this morning, I think it went quite well but they certainly want a lot for their money! It's NMW and some of the things they want are highly paid skills... still, it's 15 mins walk away so we'll see. I got a call from an agency who found my CV from CV Library (what the heck is CV Library?!) and they are putting me forward for a job. I'm supposed to have another interview tomorrow in Bristol but I never received the email they were going to send and can't get a hold of them so far... I'm not too fussed, it was only 12 hours a week.

My landlord is coming round AGAIN to look at the flooded floor. I wish he'd stop looking at it and playing guesswork and get a plumber out! The carpet is now completely ruined as is the bathroom flooring. Would move out if I had the money! :(
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.
