I was at the Jobcentre yesterday. They've changed it now, you used to sign on at the same time every fortnight but now they give you a different time of day each time and book your appointment for next fortnight when you sign on each time (which I don't like, it's confusing!) Anyway, I went yesterday for what I thought was my 10:40 appointment only to find out I wasn't due till 2. I asked since I was there if there was any chance I could be seen there & then, and the advisor had a few mins so I got seen, and he found a job suitable for me on the system (PA/Admin at a College) where the application time didn't close for another 2 weeks but if you applied by 12 yesterday your application went in the fast-track pile - so I dashed home and got my CV sent in straight away! It paid off to be out of bed early!

And no sooner had I done that when I got a call from an agency who has placed me in temp work before, asking to put my CV forward for a 3-week admin job at the Olympics!!! I jumped at it and I just got a call about an hour ago telling me I have an interview! That's going to be either Friday or early next week. And the agency said they'd forwarded the Olympics people a reference I got from the last temp job I did at the agency. Seems I got a glowing report from the company, they said I was flexible and capable of doing early starts, late finishes, weekend work, and that I was reliable and worked very well in a team, and they'd be happy to have me back if they needed temps again. So that has been a real boost to my self-esteem (especially after my last job where I was working with a clique and the experience was horrible and really left me doubting myself).

Only problem is that I'm supposed to be heading up North to see Take That with my mum & sister in 3 weeks time. The ticket was my Christmas present from my parents. But if I get this job I won't be able to go. But I just can't afford to turn down paid work and while I'd love to go to the gig, the job has to come first. My big concern is that if I can't go, whether my parents will be able to get the ticket transferred or refunded. But I spoke to my mum about it and she's sure one of my sister's friends will probably be up for going & if so my mum will be happy to take the money in instalments so it's not too expensive at the last-minute for her. (See that was my big concern, obviously I really will be sad if I miss the gig but I really don't want my parents losing their money. It's a coach trip from their town with a night in a hotel in Manchester so probably over £100 all in.)
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

I am basically admin support for the General advisers on debt/money advice and Debt/Money Advice Advisers. The only training I really had is how to use the software they use and how to read and interpret different documents and some general finance training, 2 weeks training and I was off on my own as I got the hang of it and if I have questions I have a supervisor to ask. My role involves having piles of client paperwork piled on my desk and having to turn it into a budget and a financial statement and then chase the missing paperwork. Depends what type of position you are going for in the CAB, some need a lot more training than others.

What are you thinking of doing with the CAB?

Sounds interesting....be sure to let us all know how it goes and if you hear of any other positions available! I imagine a fair few jobs will be created leading up to the Olympics. Let's hope so!

I've been looking at CAB vacancies, they all seem to want experience. I might look at volunteering opportunities though now. Thanks for this.

The one problem with the caseworker/adviser CAB vacancies is that they want proven advice experience etc which usually comes from being a volunteer adviser. I really wanted to train to be an adviser but it takes a long time and I could not give them that much time in case a job comes up. But I love my position, something new and different each time.

If anybody lives anywhere near the Middleton's (you know, Kate's parents), they are advertising for a Merchandiser and a Buyers Administrative Assistant / Office Junior on their website Party Pieces.

Jeeez, I just posted a perfectly reasonable question regarding doing a Microsoft certification in Microsoft Office to help me stand out from the crowd and and got a really awful answer from someone.

I am so not having a good day.

I just read it, I don't entirely disagree with the sentiment of what they are saying, but the way they have said it leaves a lot to be desired!

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?
  • Kymbogs, there are a few names there who are just obnoxious full stop, whatever the thread. Some people just can't be pleasant no matter what.

That whole thing has actually knocked me for six today.

asparagus I think that because you are feeling vulnerable today you are probably a bit more sensitive then you would normally be. Don't let people upset you, I'm sure that you will feel much better tomorrow!

I have to agree, nobody there was nasty until you replied in the way that you did. I'm not judging you for it, I've had my own dramas when I've been having a rotten day too.

Try not to let everything get you down :) chocolate and wine usually helps me :rotfl:
