I agree with lexi, I think that the company would be very annoyed to hear that this recruiter is making decisions based on her feelings about candidates rather than their abilities. Just be careful how you word it so that it doesn't sound like you are being childish!

Asparagus I hope that you are feeling better today.

Yes, thank you livermum, I'm feeling a lot better today, a big hug and a good night's (uninterrupted!!!) sleep have done me the world of good.

  • Morning everybody!

Still my quest for a job goes on,absolutley nothing new around here, have managed to apply for two jobs at the start of the week both miles out of my comfort zone for travelling.

  • Just heard from the interview I went to last week. Once again I came second - seems to be the story of my life! So I'm back to square one. Its a real shame as it would have been a perfect job forme. I've only found two jobs to apply for this week and no interviews on the horizon.

asparagusnextleft, so glad you feel better. The highs and lows (mostly lows) of job seeking are difficult to weather.

When I felt I wasn't moving forwards at all I had my CV reviewed by the Nextstep. It was helpful as she suggested how to make my CV stand out - one area is to write targets skills in white around the border i.e non visible as this makes your CV more searchable.

I had a phone interview yesterday - a recruiter promoted me to various firms and one is interested, the interview went well but the major issue is travel, it's a 2hr journey from home and the fuel costs would be very high. It's a measure of how desperate I feel that I'm even considering it. Long hours isn't the issue but I have a young child and I'm not sure I could get the childcare for the hours needed. Arghhhh, a few years ago this would have been a complete No as it really isn't do'able but I'm just so pleased to even be considered for a job.
In this case the recruiter has been a star, really positive and helpful but interestingly she's isn't originally from the UK so she has a traditional approach to helping candidates rather than the Sales approach that other recruiters use.

November5th, I would approach the company directly, as a follow-up, I would be reluctant to mention issues with the recruiter as you don't know what relationship she has with the company. If you get the job it's a win/win for her and you.

I worked in this line of business 20 years ago (it was my first job after leaving college). They told me that someone had more recent experience and that was the only reason.

you can do it via learn direct, ill be seeing if i can do mine through them soon

I registered last week to do the ECDL course. This was set up at my last Next Step session, and I'm doing it through my local LearnDirect centre. Might as well since it's free and may keep my brain ticking over...

    Morning all,

Can't find anything new to apply for today. Have done some surveys and entered some comps. Have decided to ring up and put my name on an allotment waiting list, it's something I've ummed and ahhed about for ages. Not that that has anything to do with job hunting....

I've only got next week at uni, then it's half term, then one more week at uni then that's it till mid to end of September. I'm going to go insane with boredom.

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?
