Received my contract today. :j
There are a few bits I'm not happy with and I still have nowhere to live, but it would be stupid to turn down a job, particularly when it sounds like it's going to be such good experience.
Will wait for OH to come home and have a look, then will sign it and send it back.
November5th, if an agency has introduced you to a company, that company will have to pay the agency commission regardless. So if you cut out the agency, the company will still have to pay them but won't get very much for their money. That's why I think the company won't be particularly keen for you to ditch the recruiter. It sounds awful and I'm not really sure what I would do in your position, tbh. I think I would just follow through with the process, hope for the best and in the event you don't get it, stop speaking to this woman and contact a different recruitment agency to promote you going forwards.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you get the job despite this woman though. Once you're employed, you won't have to speak to any agencies anymore.:)
If anyone is in Scotland, you can get a little bit of funding through ILA Scotland for any course, but I'm not aware of an equivalent down south or across the water. Good luck to everyone starting courses - apart from putting something fresh on your CV, it'll surely help keep you sane.0 -
On my way to another interview. This one says it'll take an hour. An HOUR! Can it really take that long?God I hate this...0

I've often had interviews that have lasted an hour or more. You won't realise it's taking that long once you get into your strideThere is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro.....0 -
Didn't get the job I interviewed for Tuesday. The reason is important to share because I made a massive error. I have been very keen to get across my personality and be relaxed, but I relaxed to the point where I told a story about a colleague who thought that all marketing people did was take drugs and get lap dances, saying how wrong and awful it was to think that.
This shocked the interviewer that I would even mention these things.
I was trying to loosen up and not play it so safe and I have made a stupid mistake. Ticked every single box on that one too.
Back to playing it very safe.
Gutted and beating myself up. I'm useless.0 -
No you're not useless - you just made a mistake that's all. I've said things in interviews that should have been left unsaid, and then cringed for days afterwards. I'm sure I'm not the only one! There is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro.....0

November don't beat yourself up too much for it... in interviews these days you can't win if you play it safe and you can't win if you play it 'edgy'... At least you were remembered, many people who play it safe probably don't get the job as the interviewer can't even remember them!
Just a quick update to you all... Yesterday was a good day, I got two more interview invites and the interview that clashed with my exam was rescheduled for the afternoon.Feeling a bit stressed out now. Too much going on, not enough time to think!

Thanks asparagus, this helps.
It had honestly not crossed my mind that something very tabloid would shock someone, but I do get it and won't be doing it gain. Damn I wanted that job, and they were hiring for two other positions as well. I have killed them all off0 -
Onwards and upwards, November5th!! Try not to dwell on it (easier said than done) but the opportunity has gone now, so focus your attention on other opportunities. It's not a mistake you will make againThere is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro.....0

November5th, I suspect the culture must be wrong for you if they reacted so negatively to that comment. If an organisation can't handle a range of personalities then I suspect it's not a place you would thrive. If you were a hiring manager and you had someone very suitable for the job and they made a comment such as yours would you really reject them?
Don't beat yourself up, list all the reasons why you're a great prospect for employers, treat it like an antidote to the internal negative voices.0 -

What great advice, thanks!
If the culture is like that I would have been out as soon as I had a water cooler moment chatting about a footballers latest escapades.
It is strange that by referring to something she inferred I actually did that and possibly think it acceptable in business... even coming from the music industry where a lot of it went on, I don't.
I just found a great site written by an HR professional that I think people might find refreshing, amusing and useful: http://www.askamanager.org0
