I lost my temp-to-perm job in early 2009 and since then have been doing odd temp jobs when I can, but the market has been so slow. I got a perm job at the start of this year but it didn't work out - I was working with a horrible clique who bullied me and sabotaged my work. I was on a 3-month probation and opted to leave just before 3 months was up, it would have made me ill to stay any longer.
I'm looking for PA & secretarial work and manage to apply for over 20 jobs a day but hear nothing back. And I've tried in the past to get shop jobs etc, anything to bring a wage in, but catch 22 - I'm overqualified for that kind of job but not got enough experience for the kind of work I want to do!
I've had my CV looked over by the Jobcentre and careers staff and no-one can see what the problem is, they all say they can't understand why I'm not working. So if they can't tell me what is wrong, I can't put it right can I?
Totally agree with Ellanutella, I feel my degree (modern languages) has been an utter waste of time and money and if I'd known then what I know now I would have gone to work at 16.
Arrgh, sorry for the rant!
Chin up, I doubt that there's anything wrong with your CV (or anybody elses for that matter) employers can pick and choose at the moment, and don't they know it. All of the relevant qualifications and degrees might well be in place, but they have to cull the list in any tiny way they can, it's not necessarily because you're lacking in anything.
Hope you and every one else finds some work very soon, I'm just off to go and throttle my boss, he's such a plank!0 -
Whoop my pack of replacement pens arrived this morning and it's amazing how much that has cheered me up!!!!!!!
I have a part time sales position to apply for - which i probably won't get as there will be people with more recent experience than I have.
Hey ho it's something to keep me busy.
Not got much else to occupy my time.

I've been having a slow day today... had an exam in the morning, and a nap for a few hours in afternoon... Applied for two jobs and have received 1 more rejection
However I've got to go to a visit day before my interview now (for the same job)... does anyone have a clue what I should wear? The job is in a prison, and the visit will be within prison boundaries.x0 -

And for those saying they regret going to uni, I disagree. I graduated almost 6 years ago and have never got a job using my degree, but I'm still so glad I went for the following reasons:
a) it was the best time of my life and all my closest friends now are people I met at at uni
b) living away from home gave me the confidence to go travelling on my own, which I have done several times since then
c) sense of achievement gained from just having a degree, even if I'm not using it
d) put off starting work for a few years - so maybe those who started work at 16 may be in better positions now, but you've got the rest of your life to work and you'll be sick of it soon enough!
.
Unfortunately none of those above applies to me which I think is why I resent it so much because I feel i've got nothing out it. It's especially galling because it didn't put off starting work for me, I worked all the way through uni and now the type of jobs I was doing like sales assistant, office temping etc are the type of jobs that keep rejecting me. It's like having a degree has made me less employable, not more
sorry for such a negative posts today. I have moments where I just get really angry at my situation and today is one of them!Times is 'ard.0 -

One of the jobs I had an interview for told me they had over 300 applications. Not sure how long they had that one up though. But, 300! :eek:Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
Well my first aid course was not great I don't actually feel I learnt much but it's the piece of paper that matters. I loved Uni too for the life experience, friends and I needed to move out/away for a while but the degree is a huge barrier as people seem to think I am some kind of mega uber genius for having a law degree and seem to think it means I am too overqualified. I always lose out on experience but luckily mI have a great voluntary admin position with a very flashy title :rotfl:0

The person who interviewed me last week for the post I didn't get said that they had over 300 applications for an Administrator so I felt quite pleased I got an interview - it was only advertised once in the local newspaper and on their website for a week.0 -
Evening all. The job hunting is getting nowhere for me. I recieved a rejection email from a retail job this week even though I have experience in the sector. Its making me feel like I'm not even worth minimum wage. My makeup course is the only thing keeping me occupied these days. I finish it in about a month. Can't wait because after I can start building up my portfolio.0

What I mean is, I was emailed a rather exciting job description, and I almost wet my pants.
