  • Well my appeal went exactly like I thought it would.
Apparently my condition make me a `liability`and they are fearful I will keep being off work blah blah...so much for reasonable adjustments.

So it's off to the Jobcentre for my interview this afternoon for jobseekers...happy days ....NOT.

Just got my student loans annual statement through. £20122.91. Worth every penny... obviously ;)

Just got mine through the other day, very similiar number. Depresses me so much. I struggled through uni because I hated it so much and now I can't even get the sort of jobs I was working whilst struggling through uni! I wouldn't mind so much if I felt like I had some knowledge out of it but I did English and don't even feel particularly well read. Complete waste of money. Plus it's all very well saying "you don't have to pay it back til you're earning over x amount" but in the mean time the interest is racking up. Worst decision I ever made was to go to uni.

I'm feeling glum today as it's the last day of my census work so unless I get a phone call about the interview I had last week (rang up on tuesday when they were meant to ring and they'd booked more interviews up until today so it's not looking good) I'll be back signing on and banging my head against a brick wall. :(
    Times is 'ard.

Got myself registered with learn direct but i wish id done it earlier since i know you can do the stuff online
  • Nothing for me to apply for today so I've also done an hour on the wii fit (I do most days). I've become quite addicted to it.

I gave up wearing high heels to interviews. I don't have a car and so rely on public transport which often means wandering around industrial estates for a while (45 minutes in one case - I could hardly walk when I got to the interview!).

I've got a bit of an issue with my interview next week. Its for a secretary and includes audio typing. I have an ear complaint (which causes balance problems) which means that I cannot use in-ear type headphones - they have to be on-ear (hope you know what i mean). Do I explain this at the interview or leave it until I start should I be successful. I know that the firm has to make reasonable adjustments etc but I am happy to pay for a set of headphones myself if it means I get a job! Its only a small business and I don't want them to say no just because of a pair of headphones (I think maybe I'm starting to get a tad paranoid after so many rejections).

If it was me I'd say nothing about the headphones, it's just a minor detail, you have more important things you want to get across.

I often tower over interviewers too, I'm six foot in my heels!

Has anyone ever shaken an interviewers hand with a nice firm handshake only to find theirs is like a limp lettuce? I hate that and never know what to do!! :rotfl:

Maybe it wasn't his hand :rotfl:
    !
I came out of one interview thinking I had broken the interviewers finger! I got the job that time.

Maybe it wasn't his hand :rotfl:

May I join you? I'm job-searching too, have been for about a month now.

I lost my temp-to-perm job in early 2009 and since then have been doing odd temp jobs when I can, but the market has been so slow. I got a perm job at the start of this year but it didn't work out - I was working with a horrible clique who bullied me and sabotaged my work. I was on a 3-month probation and opted to leave just before 3 months was up, it would have made me ill to stay any longer.

I'm looking for PA & secretarial work and manage to apply for over 20 jobs a day but hear nothing back. And I've tried in the past to get shop jobs etc, anything to bring a wage in, but catch 22 - I'm overqualified for that kind of job but not got enough experience for the kind of work I want to do!

I've had my CV looked over by the Jobcentre and careers staff and no-one can see what the problem is, they all say they can't understand why I'm not working. So if they can't tell me what is wrong, I can't put it right can I?

Totally agree with Ellanutella, I feel my degree (modern languages) has been an utter waste of time and money and if I'd known then what I know now I would have gone to work at 16.

    Arrgh, sorry for the rant!
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

Welcome Saturnalia I think that you will find that you are like many of us on here and there is no real reason why we cannot get a job. We have the qualifications, experience and intelligence that they want but for some reason we are all still here!

I think that's why I felt a bit tearful after my recruiter interview today (lovely people). We are sitting there looking at what is a great cv, I clearly have the skills and experience, yet I am unemployed. I started to feel a bit of stigma tbh.

Got some feedback yesterday that the interviewer thought I was nervous... my heels were killing me! :rotfl:
Oh dear, I towered over my interviewer yesterday too, perhaps I should ask how tall they are before I go in.

I've had that response before (nervous, not the height) - what do they expect? - it's an interview and in that situation, who wouldn't be nervous!
