  • Well just got the thanks but no thanks letter following my i/v on Friday. Apparently I was shortlisted and it was between 2 of us and I lost out. Did get some positive feedback though. C'est la vie.

Nothing much for me to apply for today - but as it's the Easter break and education pretty much grinds to a halt over the holidays I'm not surprised about this.
  • I live in a sleepy little village in Suffolk. There are some nice big towns nearby but not the transport to get me there, 5 failed driving tests and a 6th booked! There is really only random factory jobs, care work, kitchen work and shop work that come up or hours I can't do due to travel problems. I got told today that in my voluntary position I have been put forward for a First Aid Course next month which I'll get a certificate for so yay for that. More stuff for the CV :) I really am struggling at the moment as it has been suggested to me to leave off my degree to apply for some jobs but then I have a long job gap so I can't win argggh.

If you rejig your CV for a skills based format (google skills based CV), you can re-write in such a way that emphasises what your skills are but it doesn't go in chronological order, so that gaps of time aren't apparent. You could use this where appropriate to hide your degree if you wanted to.

I've got an interview tomorrow for a job I applied for last night. Recieved the call this afternoon. Its a retail based role working in a cosmetics department. Going to do some research on the company now :)

It's sad when it gets to the point that I am excited about a temporary data entry job isn't it?? First job I've found to apply for in a week!

I'm so wary of agencies. My CRB check came back last Friday that one of the agencies had sent for. I had already applied for one of there jobs, and we discussed this, but I was told he couldn't put me forward for it until my CRB came back. I emailed him on Friday straight away explaining I had my CRB in my hand and could he put me forward... no response. They just want as many names on their books as possible, that's all they care about!
  • I did data entry as a temp job, it slowly drove me insane and I had to leave. Was good though as my typing speed has gone up loads.

I will try a different CV type for other jobs. I have an Office Assistant one I'm going to apply for tomorrow, need to think about what to write in my application.

I'm sure it would bore me to tears, but if it means I can earn a bit of money and not have to cancel my holiday (and lose the deposit!) than it would be great for now.

Been to my interview, got asked to go for a full day tomorrow to find out about the job, etc.

After a lot of sneaky googling, it seems they are indeed a scam. They make you go self employed on commission only and don't pay anyone. Still, I have two interviews tomorrow so not too fussed. It's just been a complete waste of my time!
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.
  • Yeah I had worked for them before, for 6 months it was fine. It was the kind of job you could do for 6 months then you wanted out lol it paid for all my driving lessons and got me out of debt so it was good then I got fed up and left.

There are so many dodgy jobs posted about out there, a lot of strange work from home ones as well.

    Hi Folks

I have been lurking on this thread for the last couple of days and have read ALL the posts - it did take me a few days to go through them all! Anyway, I thought I would share my story of being unemployed and hopefully get some advice/guidance from all you lovely people out there !

I have been out of work for just over a year now, I have almost 10 years experience of credit control. I have always enjoyed dealing with numbers, so that is probably the reason why I did credit control for so long. However, doing it for such a long time became boring (there is only a certain amount that needs to learned in order to do the job competently).

After my last job ended, I decided to do some tests (the ones which claim to match you to your ideal career). After spending a few weeks doing these and also using the govenment's careers website, I decided that accountancy was the most relevant to me. Therefore, in order to develop my career from credit control, I started the AAT (accountancy course) in the summer of last year. However, I am still out of a job and trying to find suitable employment (sales/purchase ledger clerk, accounts assistant etc)!

In order to get a 'relevant' role in the accountancy field, what would you suggest I do? Do you think I should initially get a credit control role and then work in other parts of accounts in an organization, or do you think I should get some experience via volunteer route in other parts of the accounts e.g .sales/purchase depts?

Finally, has anybody got any advice in terms of which websites or publications are best for featuring accountancy roles?

Thanks in advance for any advice offered.
