Why why why are all the admin jobs I see only temporary

I can't go down the temp route because I am a lone parent and it seems like too much hassle with the signing on and off IS. If it was just me I would do it, but with having my wee boy, I can't take the risk of my payments being mucked up or not going in on time which I think could be likely if I am signing on and off.

Where are all the permanent admin jobs!? Why are they like hens teeth?
I'm having exactly the same problem. Everything advertised here is either temp, under 16 hours often 0 hour contracts (as the business needs kind of thing) I'm a lone parent too and I can't take the risk of having work one week and nothing the next. If it were just me I could manage but not with 2 kids to feed too :( and then theres all the faffing on signing on and off phoning tax credits etc.

Well I was on weekly signings for 6 weeks but when I went to sign on today I was told that they are scrapping weekly signings with immediate effect as it doesn't work  lol I could have told them that, last week when I went to sign on the advisor ended up telling me about his collection of photos of buses. He's a lovely bloke but there just are any jobs around at the moment and he's as fed up as everyone else.

I STILL haven't heard back from the bank job so I presume that means I haven't got it, the interview was almost 4 weeks ago  There is a recruitment team phone number on the email I got inviting me to the interview, I'm not sure if it's worth phoning and asking for feedback.

it's just that I'm not sure if I'll be wasting my time. If they can't even contact me to say I haven't got the job I'm not sure how much feedback they will be willing or able to give me.

Its a 0845 number so not cheap to call either :o I'm trying to cut my phone bill down as it's costing me a fortune phoning agencies etc.
  • I'm back from fetching the local paper and there are two jobs to apply for (believe me - this is good!). One of them is miles from where I live and out in the middle of nowhere so I will need a car. I've always worked in the city centre and have got to work by bus or train so I hope I can actually afford to get there should I be lucky and get the job!

Its a shame to see so many new people posting (although of course you are most welcome!). I've had excellent advice and support from this thread - far better than from the job centre who just wind me up continually making me apply for jobs that I have no chance of getting!!!

Can you see I'm trying to be positive today? I realised that I only come on this thread when I want to moan so from now on I will try and be more positive and thank you for all the help and support.

Have you tried entering the 0845 number into saynoto0870.com? If you are on any kind of telephone package and can get hold of a geographical number it can work out much cheaper.

I've tried that and all that comes up is a number for customer services..... I doubt they would be able to help me as the number on the email is for a specific recruitment team.

I think I'll leave it until monday, it will have been 4 weeks exactly since my interview then, and if I still haven't heard anything I'll ring them. Talk Talk must love me being unemployed :o
