Well I am wearing a dress today so I would say it's definitely warm enough for shorts :rotfl:

Stew, how awful for you to be missing out on Oz! I would be devestated too. I would try and get the house if I was you today, and try not to dwell.

I have 7 weeks to find work, if I don't I have to cancel my holiday and lose my deposit. It's all very depressing.

I applied for some shop work yesterday. I really struggled writing a cover letter for it because I didn't want to mention my degree. I remember a guy at the job centre telling me a lot of shops won't take on grads because they know as soon as something better comes along they will leave. I couldn't bring myself to totally remove my degree from my cv though!

Meeting with the agency today. Although I'm registered with a few I haven't actually met with any before today. I'm quite nervous, I don't know what to expect, what to wear. Any help with that??

I would avoid jeans if you can. I think with our situations as they are it's better to look smartly dressed as it will show you are a presentable person.

I've just finished my personal statement for another school job, this time within the Foundation Stage. I have about 3/4 years experience in that age range, SURELY this will get me an interview.

Morning lexi you seem happier today!

I'm not as angry this morning :rotfl: I've managed to apply for 12 jobs since Thursday so I am full of hope at the minute. I'm sure that will all change when the rejections start again.

Really hoping something positive will come out of this agency meeting. I am very suspicious of agencies though and I am doubtful it will be anything more than taking my details and sending me on my way.
  • Have changed the CV.....again! Im thinking I might as well start applying for any old thing whether im qualified or not since im not getting anywhere applying for the things I DO have experience in. Might as well. At least I would feel like I was doing something.

Ever feel like you're banging your head off a brick wall ? Or you're shouting at the top of your lungs but no one is listening? Welcome to my world :D

Thanks for the comments everybody, the sun is shining beautifully here this morning so i'm going for a walk up to the local park for a wander around and get some fresh air, maybe i'll think of all the suckers working who don't have this opportunity.

Lexilex, one thing to remember about Agencies is not to tell them who else you have applied to, more than likely they will canvass them for business and may get somebody else in there ahead of you. I just say "Oh, way too many to list, they all mix into one these days."

Oh and wearing shorts? Only if I want to frighten the next door neighbours!

Did you get round to emailing the schools in your area? I've just got a letter from one of the schools I contacted, saying they have no positions, but they have an internal list of teaching assistants they call on for sickness/short-term cover and to ask if I would like to be added to this.

Just thought the schools in your area may have a similar thing?

I admit it, I'm not long out of bed

I have a million application forms to do, why are they so horrible. In a couple hours I'm off to register with a new agency, not sure why I'm bothering.

It is however sunny, I wish I had a garden to sit in and do my forms.
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.
  • I think I'm having a good day today (I say 'think' because I don't want to tempt fate!). I got up early and have repointed the patio - something I was going to do last summer, but due to me having a job then I never got round to. Then I went to the newsagents to get the paper as its 'jobs day' - there are 5 jobs for me to apply for (that's more than I've applied for in the last two weeks!) and also the nice lady behind the counter asked me if I wanted a triple pack of twix for 50p as the have overstocked. Due to my current situation I very rarely treat myself and have just had the nicest twix I have ever tasted - the big question each do I eat the other two or be good and save them for another day?

I had to sign today, What a depressing place the JC is, It's not the actual place or staff its more the people that surround you, I am never one to judge but you can tell from certain people's body language that they don;t want to work and they will do anything to avoid getting a interview, It feels light a weight of your chest when you get out of the place and into the sun.
  • Im really annoyed. Is there any incentive to work?
Ive just found a job that would really suit me. Working for a charity doing admin. The job is a half hour on the train and a 15 minute walk. Thats nearer than my last job. It is 5 mornings a week. Id be leaving around 7.30 am and getting back home at around 2.30pm

Then i checked how much better off i would be

    Income £147 pw
    Housing Benefit £25 pw
Council Tax benefit inc 25% discount £5 pw

    Total income £177

    Outgoings

    Travel £38 pw
    Tax £5 pw
    NI £4 pw
    Rent £70 pw
    Council tax £19 pw

    Total Outgoings £136

So just over £40 to live on a week to live on.

Surely there should be some incentive . If there is no work in your town then the Govt expect you to travel away. But if it makes me £25 pw worse off than someone on JSA then whats the point?

I did yes. Only heard back from 3 so far and they just told me where to look for advertised posts although I look in those places already.

We did used to have a supply agency run by the council but they stopped advertising for people over 2 years ago (I was registered with them for a while before that when I needed work before College). I did recently contact them and was told that schools are too quiet so there;s no need for the agency at the minute. It seems most schools now use their own TA's to cover teacher absences and go without if it's a TA that's off ill to avoid spending money.
