In theory a three way marginal, although it appears a lot of Tory votes 'were lent' to the LibDems.

I see. I just made the assumption 'oop north = Labour'.

I think the 3 way marginal thing might have been a one off. In 2005 the Conservatives were well back in 3rd with 18.2% of the vote (link), in 2001 the Tories had 16% (link) and 1997 the Tories had a little under 20% (link). The seat didn't exist before 1997 apparently.

Good to see the BNP losing votes.

Hm... the seat has been labour for a while, but the lib dems came very close last election. This meant the labour candidate used dirty tricks to get the seat, which were illegal, and so he got kicked out.

This time around, the government set the election while students were on holiday, because for some reason there were a lot of students who might not like government policy, and who used to vote lib dem, and who live in this consitutancy.

So I guess, none of the parties are immune from being scumbags.

Well, yes, but they have different front pages for those in the UK and for non-UK readers.

Not entirely relevant as the BBC is a world service. It is like Saying BP only dig for Oil in the UK, it's a name now, not a statement it is only british.

Not saying it is a conspiracy but non other the other "British" news sites are running it has a headline now.
Perhaps the BBC are just lazy?

You are of course aware that there are TWO versions of the BBC News website?

One for the UK with a UK news bias and without adverts.
One global version that carries adverts and has a global news bias.

Looking at some other UK news sites and their headlines:
The Labour Loving Lefties at The Times: Tories bicker after by-election collapse
The Loonie Lefties at The Telegraph: Oldham East by-election: Clegg insists Lib Dems 'strong and united'

Yes, but the BBC do not just lead with british stories just like any other british news page (like you made out)?????

I thought TV based sites would be more equal not papers such as ITN etc?

PS Looks like they buckled under our views. :)

Tunisia is now the lead and Oldham has f'd off altogether. :)

We get the one with adverts, as well as the TV stations with adverts.

Funnily enough they don't put the advert about the "unique way we are funded means we can put on such gems as [insert name of crap TV program] and [insert name of worst presenter/actor]".

Australian TV is excellent despite showing adverts. They keep showing England winning at cricket although not today obviously.

The B@$T@RD$, so it's OK for the rest of the world BBC programs to be funded by advertising but just not the UK as they have a licence to shaft the population.

Question, if the BBC was not a tax :) what programs would survive because of revenue?

    I will start
    1) Top Gear
    2) Eastenders
    3) Strictly (pains me to say)
    4) Match of the Day
    5) David Attenborough's wildlife programs

    OK I am struggling now.

Can someone explain the big fuss to me please?

During the lifetime of this Parliament, where no one Party is anywhere near to an overall majority, and where we have a coalition Government, EVERY single by-election will be big news.

Certainly if the Cons, Labs or LibDems :eek:had a 100 seat majority, a by-election can be dismissed as irrellevant, but in the current circumstances I would be shocked if it wasn't the first headline on all UK News channels.

Thank you, I commend this tirade to the House
