No it was the website and the most read story was the ETA one.

If you're referring to BBC TV news, then it's actually not alone in giving more broadcast time to a story with "good video" (Arizona shootings) than to one without (two ETA blokes giving a newspaper interview): image is all.

Besides, the BBC may have been faced with the same difficulty as any other broadcaster where ETA is concerned, i.e., just how many times is violence going to be renounced "for good"?

ETA announced a "permanent cease fire" in March 2006, bombed Madrid Airport just six months later, and then announced in June 2007 that the, er, "permanent ceasefire" was cancelled.
    I think....

Every time I see it I am thinking what was the news about Swiss Watch Movements. :)

In theory a three way marginal, although it appears a lot of Tory votes 'were lent' to the LibDems.

Attributing a Leftwing bias to the BBC's TV news operations presupposes the existence of a professional outfit skilled in the ways of slanted journalism.

Er. . . Not so. It isn't political bias that hallmarks BBC TV News nowadays but downright amateurism, as if the programme Editors and Director of News have no more idea what a story is than my cat.

Today's idiocy was but a further example of that: BBC TV leading with a story that was already many hours ouf of date,
whilst Sky News led with news, background, and comment on the breaking situation in Tunisia, and the impact of that upon thousands of UK holidaymakers either out there already or about to depart.

The many hours out of date refers to 2 in the morning compared to breakfast time I assume, I don't count that as out of date :)

So most of the votes went from Tory to LibDem, with LibDem gaining some sympathy votes due to the nature of the election.

http://www.labour-watch.com/bbcbias.htm makes for very entertaining reading. Remember that the BBC should report all news impartially and should not be giving opinions....

There are some sad b*******s :)

I see. I just made the assumption 'oop north = Labour'.

I think the 3 way marginal thing might have been a one off. In 2005 the Conservatives were well back in 3rd with 18.2% of the vote (link), in 2001 the Tories had 16% (link) and 1997 the Tories had a little under 20% (link). The seat didn't exist before 1997 apparently.

Good to see the BNP losing votes.

Rochdale is of course the home of the Co-operative movement (and the tubular bandage!) and was represented by the statuesque Liberal Cyril Smith in the 70's & 80's.

Shamefully Cyril Smith lobbied for the Asbestos industry and the main manufacturer of asbestos Turner & Newall actually wrote some of his speeches for him.

The many hours out of date refers to the interval of time between the Breakfast News being stuffed with the by election results from 8am onwards and BBC News 24, ditto, up to and including the BBC News lead item at 1pm. In journalistic terms, that's half a life time.

You don't happen to work for BBC TV News, by chance? ;)
