    Yes.
But heaven forbid one spends money on ensuring their animal has a peaceful end.

they aren't that sympathetic to hamsters- stick a needle in him and lob him in the yellow bin!

what? as opposed to put him in a tupperware box and wait for him to suffocate?

I would actually- I am not tight, but the vets will not open or call out for a hamster on a Sunday, however much you pay out- I have tried

We love the little mite- he is not in a tupper ware with the lid on as I can't do it- my son is sat with him and very upset

I'd just put something warm and cosy, like a layer of soft cloth or cotton wool, in the bottom of the box and keep him snug and secure. I wouldn't put the lid on the box though; just let nature take its course. I'd wet his wee lips too, just to make him a wee bit more comfortable.

so who put the lid on then?
Took the lid off thinking he'd gone a min ago and he was still breathing- having not had air for 3 mins!

sorry but this is making me feel sick. i know he's dying but i just can't help but think you're going about it the wrong way. i know what you are doing may seem like the best thing but i don't think it is. i think it is cruel to suffocate the poor thing.

Sorry to hear about your Hamster.

We have had 7 of them over a 10 year period and got so upset eachtime one died. The last one Fluffy 3 escaped from his cage and chewed up the Carpet. What ever he ate seem to kill him over the next few days.

The two we had before that, Lilly and Charlotte. Charlotte died a year to the day we got her. Came down one morning and she was Hovis. Lilly lasted nearly a year longer and died with a really swollen belly. I helped her along in the end. Very quick method. (They were Russian Hamsters)

The one before that was called Fluffy 2 and he was in the Hamster SAS. He used to fly round his cage and leap off the table if we let him out. Would always come back to us.

It was not the kids that were getting upset but me and DW so we decided not to get anymore. Now we have Fish called one, two and three we did have four but four died so now only have 3,2 and 1 You get less attached to fish. Not to easy to take them out and stroke them.

I do think its best to put it out of its misery if you can do it.

Don't get distressed kittykate, Jo's said s/he has taken the lid off. Even if they'd had it on for a few minutes, there would be enough air in the box to keep a hamster going for a while without it suffering. Jo's just trying to do the right thing since they can't get a vet. I'm sure the wee hammy will slip away peacefully quite soon.
